Sport bowling this summer for me!!!
« on: April 17, 2005, 11:07:34 PM »
Yes, in addition to bowling an adult junior league on Mondays with my daughter, one of my Monday night teammates and his son, I'll be bowling in my first sport league on Thursday nights in another house in Merrimack, NH. It's a trios league, and last summer they put out 6 different patterns for the summer, I think keeping each one in rotation every 2 weeks. The patterns last year were the following lengths: 15 feet, 20 feet, 30 feet, 40 feet, 45 feet and 50 feet. I'm guess with the two shorter patterns you can forget about using anything above light oil equipment and plastic (depending on the volume of oil...) and that with the 45 and 50 foot patterns, my heavy oilers will get a workout...but you never know.

I look forward to this experience, I know that my average will probably be closer to what I average on Tuesday nights then my Monday night THS, but I think I will learn a lot about my game and I'm a patient person, so I think I will improve as the summer goes on.

I too will be bowling the ol' PBA league this summer. 2 weeks per each of the 5 shots, then eitehr a major shot for the last 2 weeks or they will be gentle and put down a THS, not sure yet.

Unless, you have a Sport Bowling sanction it isn't Sport Bowling.  It may very well be tougher than the house shot but it isn't Sport Bowling.  I would encourage everyone to pursue Sport Bowling not as an alternate pursuit in the summer but as a year round activity.

I also signed up for a SPORTS BOWLING SANCTIONED league this summer. Bowled in it last summer and look forward to it again this year. Haven't spoken to anyone yet about the shot they will lay down .. from what I recall it was one that changed periodically. Whatever it is .. it's fun!

Count me in this summer, second in a row for me.  I bowl it at a different center tha my usual house.  Full AMF HPL synthetics and shoddy synthetic approaches to boot.  Between lack of focus in the summer and pure crap bowling on my part I think I averaged a whopping 150 or so last year.  I am really trying to get my brain in to shape this year and start taking everything seriously again so this will be my best shot at doing so.  It doesn't start till June for me and is only 11 weeks long but still looking forward to it.  Highlight last year was going 111, with like 7 gutters or so,214 finding a decent shot,130 something because the pair broke down and we moved back to fresh.

Urethane Game: This league I'm bowling in for the summer is a Sport Bowling Sanctioned League. I would like to pursue this type of league in the fall, but only one house in my local area runs a sport sanctioned league and since it starts at 9pm and I have to be at work at 11pm (in another part of the state) I couldn't make that work. This sport trios league starts at 7:30pm so I'll have plenty of time to make it to work by 11pm.

Working 3rd shift does cut into my opportunities in bowling the leagues I desire, but if it were up to me I would bowl one regular league and one sport league every season if possible.

Matt,

If you can average in the Sport league, what you averaged in your Tuesday night, that would be amazingly great. Most people's averages drop atleast 30 pins, some as much as 50 pins from the house shot. Because of those differences, most people do not like to bowl 36 weeks of it during the winter.

All but 1 sport shot league have been killed in my area.  The one that remains is unsanctioned and on the same night as my golf league!!  I wish they'd offer them during the regular season -- my regular avg. is so low that going sport shot won't hurt me any!!

I, for one, will NOT bowl a sport league this summer.  In fact I will not bowl any organized league this summer.  But, what I will do is have them run a tough pattern (maybe the one we had this weekend) so I can work on some release issues and actually practice some - what a concept!!

I bowl in a winter non-certified sport league.  Even though it is not certified as a sport league, our local association considers the non-certified league as a sport league and requires average adjustments for tournaments.  The shot in this league is just as difficult as a certified sport league I have subbed in.

I know my arguement sounds a little bit like if a tree falls in the woods thing but my point is that USBC santioning is the only way to ensure scoring integrity.  If your local association feels compelled to adjust/rerate your average based on the league they should take the next step and run the tapes themselves.
