On my team, there are 2 bowlers that average around 210-215. The rest of us except for 1 guy are all averaging between 180 and 195. This is how my team is set up.
1. Our leadoff guy averages around 215, has a consistently good strike ball and makes around 95% of his spares. He also had 3 sanctioned 300's this year, more than anyone else in our league. He gets the rest of the team going.
2. Our lefty goes in this spot. He has the lowest average on the team but when he's on, he's on.
3. This is where I am slotted. I have a good strike ball, consistently average between 190-195, and have a good spare conversion rate. Plus, I am versatile on where I can play the lane, and throw well on most of the patterns we use, including our flat patterns. My A game is playing outside, but can move in and hook it when needed. One other advantage with me is that I can throw hard (19-23mph) when needed. This means I can stay on a line longer than most, and can convert some tougher splits, which can and does help.
4. This is where we slot one of our other consistent guys. He averages between 195 and 205 and stays out of trouble on the lane. He is a great spare shooter, strings strikes together, and does a great job setting up our anchor in the 9th frame. Our guy here is also versatile, being able to play both inside and outside when needed.
5. This is where we slot our cranker. He has a huge strike ball, has no problem stringing a lot of strikes together, makes a good percentage of his spares, and is very good under pressure. He also can adjust very quickly. Our advantage here is that he is also able to move deeper than anyone else in our league and is very successful with this. His average is around 215.
This arrangement worked very well for us just finishing our first year together as a team. We already have committed to coming back this fall and using the same arrangement as we were competitive all year. It was the most enjoyable league I've been a part of in a long time.
