Once Again, PBA On ESPN Delayed
« on: April 05, 2015, 02:36:14 PM »
Was supposed to have started at 1230pm AZ time, but tennis is running late, and may be 30 minutes late at the rate they are playing.  Just a reminder for anyone who set their DVR.

Just add two hours to the recording time. That has not failed me yet.

Does anyone know if the PBA pays ESPN for the Shows?

That only happens when the next event is also live, such as a NASCAR race, or MLS match where they can't delay the start for very long. The bowling isn't live, as far as I know, but I'm not sure. Either way, they showed the entire bowling event from start to finish, so it didn't matter that they didn't move it to another network. And if they do this, usually it's ESPNews that gets it, as ESPN2 usually has it's own programming on.

I don't see the big deal about this....when you set-up a recording, do you not look at the program on before it? Even if you set-up a series recording, would you not look a day or two before hand to see what is preceeding it since it is on a network that shows live sports? It seems like a no-brainer to do that and then adjust recording time accordingly. I don't see the need to b!#$h and complain about it week in and week out.

All I want to say is why was Bowling not put on ESPN2 so We could have it on time? Like You guys say ESPN does it for the other Sports.

Spot on, Jorge!  Last week I learned my lesson, saw tennis was on live and added an hour to DVR schedule.

I do not believe that is the case anymore. The PBA pays for the production though (I believe), which is why the WSOB came about to save money for the PBA and the bowlers.

I'm glad I was able to watch it.  Didn't mind the amateurs.  Could tell they were nervous from not only being on tv but bowling their idols.  I loved the looks on the pros when they had to beat a 9 count.  You know they didn't want to be the one to lose a frame to an amateur.  The pro matches were befuddling as they just couldn't seem to get a handle on the shot between the two lanes.  Good watching.

Kinda off this topic, but I want to add that I am enjoying watching the unconvential "pair" they are using. Whether it was done on purpose or it just happened this way due to the practice/play, each lane is playing much different. In every house, pair vary as you move, even just to the one next door. So opening up this variable adds to the match, I feel. You can see when each team gets lined up on the one lane and how they seem to struggle when they have to switch. I hope this is something they continue as the PBA League moves forward.

Actually, I didn't consider that as a reason to use the unmatched pair for this, but that would make sense.

I thought it might have something to do with being able to have more balls available to the bowlers on the returns. Or that the space on the lanes in that house is tight, so shooting at corner pins does not get cramped by the ball returns.
