lane play
« on: February 06, 2006, 01:17:41 PM »
I'm posting this and hope many others will do the same so I can learn from it as well as others.

Lane play:  This is from my experience with different types of lane conditions.  On house blocked lanes; known as easy house shots, I have found that the best way to score is playing deep inside lines.  I have found that this is the best way to give you area.  If your a down and in low rev bowler I would suggest learning how to swing the ball a little to give yourself more area to recover from mistakes.  Every house blocked lane I have bowled the inside swing shot is the best way to score.

Tough lane patterns is where is gets tricky.  From what i'm learning is on conditions like this it's best to play straight on fresh conditions.  I also have found that maybe a small swing shot or straight still is best when the lanes start to transition.  Now when the lanes break down this is where a big move of your feet left(righty) is the best way to go.  I'm talking about a large jump left with your feet and target.  I feel this because by the break down phase the lanes seem to create a blocked condition from bowling the fresh and transition.

I hope this helps.  I know that there are a lot of ways to play tough patterns and I have only touched a small area with what I have wrote.  I hope this helps.

I like to play deeper lines and use a good amount of revs.  However on tough patterns it's best to not do that.  At least on fresh and transition.  I'm not saying don't use high revs but to just play as straight as you can on these conditions.

If there are more guys/girls out there that can give some advice on lane play it would be appreciated.  I really would like some tips on tough patterns.

I tend to agree on tougher patterns that straighter is greater but that doesn’t necessarily mean playing the outside of the lane. You can be playing deep and just barely getting the ball past the pocket. The length of the pattern will often dictate where on the lane you have to play and how much you can hook the ball.

On house shots I’ve found it both ways.

On shorter house shots the swing shot plays best. It seems there is plenty of recovery room but little pull area.

On longer house shots I am better served  by moving out to the oil line and playing the pull area.
