Sport shot league is kicking my butt
« on: February 27, 2019, 12:17:23 AM »
So I’m two weeks into my first sport league and I’m learning every deficiency in my game. To start, we bowl against other navy bases. So we bowl 6 games on a pattern, and there’s 3 of us. But I’m the only one with any bit of understanding. The other guys are constantly lost.

So I’ve learned....
1) I have no ability to correctly break down a lane. I was all over the place. Trying to see if my turmoil solid matched up better or my hyroad. Both are OOB. Although I know now to modify that surface to take the shine off.

2) I suck at angles. Last week was rough accuracy-wise but this week I was in the pocket all night but angles killed me. I couldn’t get a solid grip on being in the right spot in the pocket. I was always coming up just a bit high or too deep and the back row of pins was constantly staring at me. And no matter how much i adjusted, I still couldn’t get a good angle in the pocket.

3) my game is so suited for down and in that the moment I have to switch up to a different line, my mental game isn’t strong enough. I’m constantly doubting everything.

4) I have the worst carry and often get left with splits.

But it leads me to my next decision on my next ball purchase. My arsenal like I stated is the turmoil solid, hyroad live, and after dark pearl. All balls are currently at OOB. Now I plan on adding surface to my hyroad, it just reads too late shiny for me.

So I was pretty sure the crux prime was going to be my next ball. And I was going to hit the turmoil at a higher grit to give it extra length.

But after realizing that my angle game sucks and I had the best look from my no longer fitting correctly no rules pearl, it gave me a better look but it was also later in the set, if something more angular may actually be better for me. Maybe the halo pearl or a physix or intense fire

This league has really changed the way I see bowling. And I usually bowl way better on house after the sport shot roughs me up.

Credit to OP for going in the deep water.  It will only serve you better in the long term.

Only a few of the things I would emphasize:
-Have a well rounded arsenal but definitely focus on getting a variety of different shapes in the bag
-MOVE THOSE FEET!
-EMBRACE getting out of your comfort zone.  If playing the twig is scary, do it!  If you're afraid of a nosebleed but the shot is telling you 5th arrow and to get around it, do it!  FIND A WAY!
-Don't focus on score as much as focus on getting better every session at something.  For me I'm always seeking to anticipate transition and filling frames.  One summer long ago it was the opportunity for me to throw plastic at all non-sleeper (except the bucket) leaves.  That has had a lasting impact on my game, scoring and has generally simplified everything in my spare game.

All one has to do is go to nationals to see plenty of examples of what happens if you never go in the deep end and then get pushed.  Not there yet myself but hopefully soon.   Good luck.
Here today.  Gone tomorrow.

Well halo pearl won out. I LT particulate has looks better in person than the pictures make it out to be. And getting it in my hands a week before release is extra appealing. I’m gonna try it oob Saturday on the sport and I can see surface changes possibly in the future

Use surface, slows the ball down and you see the pattern. Stop using OOB shine.

Northface is right on. You need some surface to control the midlane on sport patterns. I like solids instead of pearls on fresh. Preferably low rg asymmetricals. Hyroad is way to high rg for fresh, especially oob polish finish. Black ops with 2000 is a great choice as doom stated, my benchmark sport ball, but you already purchased a halo pearl. Like the fact it’s asymmetrical. Low rg. Not a fan of the oob polished surface on it. If you hit it with 2000, that should control the midlane, roll phase much better for you. Good luck.

Good luck with the Halo Pearl, I think it will be a good addition and you are taking the right approach on trying it oob, but open to surface changes.

One thing jkirkerx mentioned that is worth rementioning.... unless you are a PBA pro, even on sport shot, it's important to work with your A game first and foremost.  You need to repeat shots and be consistent.  Then you have a good arsenal to find the right reaction on the right day.

Consistency has killed me. House shot will tend to give me a bad habit where I can leak it out a little and still be ok.  Then I come to sport and leak into oil and never get the ball to come back. Ironically, i end up more accurate in house shots cuz of this
