Over/under on fresh oil?

Does anyone else get an over/under reaction on fresh oil with polished balls? Well, I'm not sure you could call it fresh oil. A doubles league bowls before us and then they just oil on top of that for our league. I had an over/under nightmare with my 2000 polished Victory Road along with my 2000 polished Infinite Theory. Is it because of carrydown? If I moved outside it would check up early and if I moved just slightly left, I'd leave a bucket or 2 pin. Tried increasing my speed and the ball sailed. Should I try my 3000 grit Onyx Vibe next week? A friend of mine just gave me his Prodigy. Maybe that at 4000 abralon would do the trick?

How do you have these drilled.. A larger VAL angle could give you a smoother reaction.

From what I have seen the Victory Road is very over/under on a lot of conditions.

Infinite Theory - 3 1/2" pin to PAP, pin next to ring.

Do you have them polished for a reason?  Cause that is what polish is going to do... it will store energy and then create a more violent reaction off of the friction.. If you want a smoother look I would knock the shine off with a fresh 4000 abralon pad..

 

If they aren't stripping the lanes then that could be part of what you are seeing.. ball hitting carry down one shot and not hooking and then hitting friction the next shot and hooking...

Surface is your friend. Try taking the VR to 4000 & the Infinite Theory to 2000.

Over/under trouble can result from various error sources - but I agree that some surface on a fresh or unfamiliar lane is the safer option than trying to use a polished pearl ball. That little extra surface adds earlier traction and offers slightly more control at the break point.

 

It also depends on the oil pattern - if you have a sharp wet/dry definition, a polished ball's reaction will be more severe than a tapered zone with continously decreasing conditioner volume.

 

Additionally, your hand position will also have some major effect on what you see down the lane: add lots of side rotation, and you get a jumpy ball - period. A rollier release with the hand behind the ball might be a better choice, at lease control-wise, but you might catch other problems this way, e. g. an earlier break point and a much to early hook and roll phase, resulting in poor hitting power.

 

Just don't blame it on the ball - if it is not the right piece for the moment, adjust or switch the ball altogether.

The three best ways to help solve this are:
 
1) change your release.......come right up the back on the ball( 20-30 degrees of axis rotation ).
 
2) SURFACE........have your equipment smooth sanded....no polish.
 
3) A drilling pattern with the pin positioned down low willl get the ball into an earlier roll and tone down the backend.
