tape ?'s
« on: July 10, 2008, 10:20:24 AM »
i like to use black tape in the back of my thumb hole.

the problem im having is I use ebonites 1" which is really thick for black tape which is great but what happens when I need to remove 1 piece because the ball is too snug? it gets way too loose.

so im trying to ask if there is a solution to this. such as a SLIGHTLY thinner tape or other product?

I tried brunswick, master, but all are super ultra thin... too thin really.

what to do?

Do you use any white tape on the front? If so, you could try a piece of 3/4" white to take up some, but not all, the room.

I like one piece of black on the back and the rest is 1" and 3/4" white on the front.

no i dont use any white tape at all.. for some reason I just always struggled with too much grip.

perhaps it was bad drillings, perhaps it is from old habbits that i finally dropped (gripping A LOT)

but i just never liked white tape. maybe one day I can go to a really great driller???

Check into Valentinobowling.com
I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

Do you "set the thumb"?  That's one way to get by with a little extra room in the thumb hole and still have it secure.

the FrankenTape is thinner than the Brunswick tape and the surface is slicker.
I found a happy medium with a 1" white tape in back of thumb with a piece of FrankenTape on top.

I have the same problem as you.  I have found ways to make white work though.

Anyway, I have used both ebonite and AMF brand black tape in both 3/4 and 1".  You may try the AMF on the ebonite because it is more thin, but if you can't get the feel you want that way, try taking out 2 pieces of black, adding one of white, and black on top of that because it is the thickness inbetween and if you put the black overtop of it, it wont cause you to stick (might need to get an insertion tool if you thumb hole is small to get it lined up directly over so the white isn't exposed).

Another thing you may look at and what I am experimenting with is the Vise strip tape that goes on your thumb.  I have tried both the Turbo and the Vise tape in the rolls that you cut and put on your thumb and none of it would stick because my hand sweats so much (im a puff ball fanatic).  The precut strips in blue and red are made with a different glue, and are more flexible.  If you put it on the inside edge of your thumb it will line up with the back of your thumbhole where you put your tape.

I also always put my tape in the ball upside down so the flat edge is at the top.  I don't care for that curved edge too much, for some reason I don't get the same consistant feel.
