In my sport shot league they use 3 shots a really long one 50 feet a medium one about 40 and a short 1 about 27 i need advise on how to play these the short one is bone dry in the middle and a fair amount on oil on the outside but not enough for out of bounds and as far as the other shots go im guessing they r going to b flat patterns.  So wut type of ball should i use and where thanks.

This is what many players do when they are dealing with sport patterns:

-On shorter patterns (37' or less), most players will have their breakpoint as far away from the pocket as possible. Because of the shorter distance, you need more room for your ball too hook into the pocket, so your breakpoint should be pretty far away from the 1-3. This could be as far right as the 3-4-5 board area.

- On more medium patterns (37'-41'), players will migrate toward the track area. Because the ball will end up hooking later than a shorter pattern and will most likely cover less boards, most players will find their breakpoint within the within the 7-8-9 area.

- On the longer patterns (41'+), players will move the breakpoint toward the middle of the lane. On this pattern because of the length of oil, there will not be as much hook as the shorter patterns, and having your breakpoint closer to the 1-3 (11-13board) will help you keep you into the 1-3 better.

This is simply what I have been taught to do when dealing with the flatter patterns. However, with some patterns that are still pretty 'flat', but still have a shape to them - causing you to be possibly playing a different part of the lane despite its length and volume.

In terms of equipment, ball roll, speed etc.. its really something you should just discover on your own. You'll figure that out through experience.
