Black Widow Pearl
« on: September 17, 2009, 06:42:39 AM »
The place I bowl in has finally replaced the old wood with new synthetics and last night was the first night of league and to say the least it was quite a change. I bought a Widow Pearl from a guy and had it refitted for me but struggled with it going to long. I now it has alot of length but was wondering if the cover could be adjusted to make it break alittle earlier, its in box condition now. I'm not a cranker more of a tweener and the guy oiling the lanes said he is oiling to 32 feet.

With just 32', I can hardly believe the BWP goes too long. Sounds fishy to me. AFAIK, the ball handles medium and even medium-light conditions well at OOB finish.

How is it drilled, and what did you use before? I can not believe that it burns up or rolls out.

Anayway, new synth surfaces can a) take some time to break in and b) the lane crew has to learn how to adjust the oil machine. Since wood tends to absorb the lane conditioner, chances are that the oil machine is programmed to apply a good amount of it, what can make the lanes pretty slick on synth. They can also have problems with cleaning the back end, which is deadly on slick synth surfaces.

Check your BWP for oil rings. If you see a lot of them and they are pretty "fat", than there might simply be too much oil up front and potentially carrydown in the back, which would IMO a plausible explanation for your problems.

Sanding the BWPs surface would help (anyway).
