Peaking in ability
« on: June 02, 2006, 12:59:59 AM »
With all the discussions about the state of the game, decline in membership and skill level, can one get as good as they will get? At a certain point, no matter practice schedule, amount of leagues or tournys bowled, does one reach a point they will not go beyond. If one is as good as they will get, will this lead to apathy towards bowling and a look for something else to get the juices flowing?(decline in membership)Could it be that this apathy has led bowlers from the competitive ranks to the recreational ranks? What would you say to a bowler who stated "I'm as good as I'm going to get so whats the point" to keep them from leaving the sport!

I think everyone reaches a peak where the balance between physical ability, mental ability, practice time, and money comes into play.

There are other peaks that no matter how hard you try, how much you practice, how much equipment you buy, how much coaching you get, you just are not going to see improvement.

Even as your physical game peaks you continue to hone your mental game.

Some of the decline is do to our society’s short attention span. Some will look at it like a video game. Something they can master and then go to the next one.

Others reach a point in the game where they have gotten as good as they want to and then move on to a new challenge.
