St. Louis Gathering Results
« on: March 11, 2007, 03:04:09 PM »
Once again, thank you to everyone that came out tonight.  We had a total of 20 people show up, and I had an absolute blast.  A little chaotic at times, but that was to be expected for how hastily this was put together.

We bowled games with everyone picking their own lane at first, 6 on one pair, 7 on the other two.  The right lane would move a pair right, and the left lane would move a pair left, after each game.

After everyone bowled on the 6 lanes, we randomly drew lane numbers (1-4) and had teams of five bowl for additional raffle tickets.  Myself, Chad, Joe, Ron, and Matt won that event.

The shot was... demanding is all I could think of to say.  Makes you appreciate a house shot a lot more, but bowling on a shot like this is plenty refreshing in itself when you realize how important shot making can be.  Finally, after everyone leaves, me, bowlingmaniac, and two of my friends that showed up, bowled 2 games, and I managed a 182, and a 204, swinging between 6th & 7th arrow out to about 10 which my blade reactive.  That was the funnest line I've played in a while.  Too bad I found it after everyone leaves, lol.

And just to clarify... boy oh boy can bowlingmaniac loft the ball.  (pictures coming soon!)

Visionary Bowling was very kind in donating a Frankie May Gryphon to the gathering, and another individual (I apologize, I cannot recall who donated, so please either post here, or PM me, and I'll edit this) donated a MoRich bowling towel.

I cannot recall the winner of the towel, but I believe it was a guest of directdrill's.  The winner of the ball was Mike (BowlingManiac017), so he has a nice souvenir to take home with him to Tennessee.

For the sake of the bowlers involved () I will not mention names in the following, but I do have the scores printed out.

Overall, we threw 81 games, and our total score is 12,984 pins.  This comes out to a little over a 160 average for the whole field, so not too bad overall.

Highest score belonged to Matt Tod, who shot an outstanding 267 game.

Thanks again to everyone that came out!  I had a blast and hope that we'll do it again soon. (more organized, and more notice)

I'm sure I can think of more details to post, but it is past midnight, and I'm exhausted from tonight!

Anyone else, let us know what you thought.

Sorry I couldn't make it.  My wife wanted to do family stuff yesterday for my upcoming Birthday this week.  With as bad as I have been bowling lately, I have felt like a house shot is a sport pattern.  Maybe the sport pattern would have helped clean up my game a little, or maybe it would have made me quit the game.
Anyway, hopefully everyone had fun and we will see more of this in the future.  St. Louis was once a great bowling town, we need to do something to get that back.

The San Diego Traveling Ambassadors to bowling will be in St Louis about the second week of August.  Our sponsor will be Visionary Bowling.  We look to bowl with as many people as possible and the events will be orginized.

If you're interested in bowling you an send me your info or contact John Wonders at Visionary Bowling products to see if you can have your name added to the guest list to bowl with Visionary or even as a quest for the San Diego Ambassadors.

Last year we went to Altoona PA and every year during the Thanksgiving break we go to Thunder Bowl in Detroit.

Ricky, Clint Daley donated the Morich towel. I shot ok. I went 201-191 after I hadnt bowled on sport in a while and then I just got frustrated and had some fun then shot 160 160 with about 5 opens in each game.

The shot was hard and demanding and I could have played it better if I had tightend my thumb holes, but I left them a little loose so I could hit up on the ball and get it to recover from the outsides.

As for the drawing I was pretty psyched. I thought the towel was going to go last but they drew for that first and I just cant believe I won the ball. It was a Frankie May Gryphon and I have ALWAYS wanted to try one of those, and now I have a chance to.

Thanks again Ricky for getting this setup and thanks to all the guys that came out. It was alot of fun.

Thanks Mike.  And I was right, it was directdrill's guest, named Charlie, that won the towel.  Very cool item to receive.

I had a great time and it was great to get to meet ya all so I now have a face to go with the screen name.
I didn't think the shot played that tough in the first game due to the wear areas on the lane giving you some friction around 8. After the first game it was a complete nightmare for me though were I would have probably faired better using platic instead of trying to force the ball to push down lane with speed or rotation angles that are out of my comfort zone. Between the Guardian and the light volume it pretty much became unplayable for me quicker than any shot I have ever been on. It was the first time I have ever played on Guardian though which I guess puts it in a class of it's own. I would like to do it again sometime, however I would like to suggest an alternate location that has lanes that will play slicker so the shots lasts longer. Preferably a synthetic house or at least standard wood with no Guardian. They could really load up the heads but then you would just have to deal with a high degree of carrydown and some people really struggle with it. Carry down doesn't really bother me though cause I have slow enough ball speed to read the backend even when there is a lot of carrydown that is assuming the ball doesn't burn too much energy in the midlane.

Well anyway thanks for organizing the get together it was great fun and a learning/humbling experience.

Rick, way to go my friend.  for short notice we had a nice turnout.  im sure that with a little more notice, next time we could really get it going.  being the only lefty who showed, i really feel like i underachieved.  that shot was maybe the toughest ive ever been on, but it was still really fun.  next time im bringing more than 1 ball.  lol. hey mike, congrats on the new ball.  drill it to hook   trust me    Ricky, make sure you let me know the next time we do this, i'll make sure the ILL side is in.  Anyone reading this that wasn't there, make sure to come next time.  if ricky puts it together, you can bet it will be righteous    we should do it 4 times a year

Thanks and I am lol. I am going to put my favorite drill on the ball which is 3 3/8 by 3 3/8. Im still thinking about what I should do with the cover. I will either go 4000 abralon or I will go with 4000 abralon polished.

When I get base selection options for the Air Force, Im hoping to get somewhere around the Missouri or Illinois area. If I do that, then I would defnitly be up for it 4 times a year. We just need to make it longer lol. Pay like $15 and bowl for 2 1/2 hours with everyone and then bowl like 3 1/2 with teams. We then either need to ALL piss on the lanes lol or Ricky needs to get that lane man to flood the lanes like the Bradley... a 50 ft shot. Thats the only thing I hate about wood lanes. When the shot goes, it goes all to hell. I hope those pictures are posted soon. I cant wait to see them!
