House Bowler got worked!!
« on: December 17, 2010, 07:31:15 AM »
Last night bowling on our PBA Experience league, I had a night I wish to forget, but glad Im doing this.  After games of 148,155,111,146,168 and 189, I felt that I wanted to take all my equipment and shove it down a garbage 6 feet deep.  We bowled on Chameleon.

I encourage all of you league hack that have never bowled on the PBA shot to join a league.  I hope it does come back next season, but my gut feeling is that the TEAM USA patterns will be used.

Didn't USBC stop sanctioning PBA Experience leagues this year?  I wanna try and join some sort of sport shot league, I just gotta find a house near me which offers one.  I know my average will drop but it will help my game on house shot patterns.  However, if it's not sanctioned I don't wanna join.  Sorry had bad experiences in non sanctioned leagues, too much sketch and drama for my liking.

It is a great experience. Also keep in mind you do not bowl for a living. You don't bowl tournaments and practice on these shots weekly. You can learn to bowl on anything when you actually get a chance to bowl on it.

Example

For years the house I bowled in started putting out a shot with heavy oil from around the 7 to 5 board out to the gutter. The inside of that was more of a christmas tree pattern. No matter your rev rate, trying to stand in deep and hook the ball was rarely a good shot. Most people just played up the boards with medium speed and don't miss right or it was a low count or gutter.

Towards the end of the season people learned to bowl on it and it was the norm for years. People from else where would struggle during tournaments usually because they had no bump on the gutters. Now this years the first few weeks people struggled a little due to the shot being drier with no out of bounds on the gutters. All the hook you can handle was out there now. After a few weeks scores went through the roof.

If you bowled that pattern every week you would get better. When you face a different pattern like that weekly there is a good chance of getting bad habits trying to make something work.

PBAX is a very humbling thing.

I call any house mouse with a big mouth to try the PBAX. Be a man and take your lumps and you will be a better bowler for it later.

I remember my first real year of bowling on the PBA shots... in league I used to average about 20-22 strikes per set, and I always though my spare game was good enough to get by on... well bowling on the PBA shots really showed me that my spare game as well as my strike ball needed lots of work! Very humbling stuff, and a must-do for anyone who takes the sport serious. Now-a-days I fair much better, right around 190, which I am PLENTY happy with!

until i found my way around the pba patterns, i was only a house bowler.

after 16 or 18 weeks, shark, chameleon and cheetah, i only managed my best to a 201 avg

improvement on breakpoint, spare shooting, speed and rev control

now i start to getting closer to make the cut on tough tournaments
--------------------
When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

I've bowled in our local PBAx tournaments and like them alot more than bowling in league....

Funny part is..... my avg in the PBAx tournaments is right @ about 198/199... My League Avg...197 so far.....

As I've laughed about it, with my other fellow bowlers who bowl in the PBAx tournys and in league with me, since for all of us, our Avg's are all about the same in League vs PBAx tournys lol...... and I've said it's because I just try harder and work on making a better throw/shot every time.   And realize that missing will result in a split or something..

But yea, I've said it for a while that if the House/league would just put out a tougher shot from the start of the league, nobody would probably notice it cuz they probably havent bowled all summer...

I envy the house bowlers at times. my house for some unknown reason puts out flat oil for 38 feet from 10 to 10 and just buffs outside 10.

the shot is actually scorable where I almost shot 300 - 3 times BUT once the oil is removed from your track forget it! its like the ball should have sparks coming off it.

with that said ive bowled on some pba shots never knowing which one i was on never helped. much, much, harder. on most patterns I could find a way to get into the pocket but carry and spares made my score sheet look like i was throwing the ball granny style. sheesh! :-) but i think if i had the right ball/layout and knew the pattern i could hit the same average as league.

one day i went to practice with my brother and the guy at the desk told me a pba shot was out but forgot which one. so we went to bowl and my brother hated it (high speed/lower revs). I had no idea what shot was out but it was oily and i only brought one ball not meant for heavy oil so i threw it right next to the channel with a locked wrist and still was in the 180-190 range every game... not bad at all seeing as im just a 200 avg bowler.

the point is... if you think you are or arent accurate a pba shot will tell you immediately! -)

I think my main issue with most PBA experience leagues are that they are the typical league format instead of being a block league. Of course a sport pattern is going to seem really hard with you don't have the same number of bowlers as the tour, playing the lanes the right way to break them down, and having enough time to take advantage of the pattern once friction is created. I honestly think most of the leagues were created just for the purpose of humbling the league bowler when in reality it's just another lane condition.

Dont worry about sanctioning. its garbage anyway. Plus, the only thing you get in a sanctioned PBA league is if you shoot 300 and that's rare.

From what I have heard, the PBA Leagues next season if they want to be sanctioned, they will have to use the TEAM USA patterns, which consist mostly Kegel shots.  No cake walk shot either.

Actually the USBC decided not to renew the agreement with the PBA for the royalty they charged to use the Animal patterns. Any Sport league that starts after November 2010, has to use the sport patterns that USBC has on there website or the Kegel patterns.

The Team USA experience is a program that the USBC is doing to be close to the PBA Experience in format and they are going to promote it the same way.
