Staff positions
« on: April 30, 2006, 10:39:41 AM »
Ok, here goes. I am wanting something that I have never really thought too much about previously. I really want to have a staff position with a ball company. I believe I have the talent to represent any company well, but how do I go about getting hooked up with the right company, or have them get interested in me? I have sent messages so far to Track and Ebonite. Did get a message back from Track, but was told budgets are set and that I should send a resume. (Track was a natural first pick, I had a fantastic year using primarily Track stuff. Booked 233, for my highest average ever.) Anybody have any good ideas or insight on what it takes to get a position? Any help is appreciated.

Ball companies have staff bowlers for one reason...to help them sell bowling balls.  You need to give a reason to hire you.  Like Jabroni said, having a high average isn't enough.  Start entering tournaments and make a name for yourself.  And just winning isn't enough, there are plenty of guys out there that have the credentials, but don't have a contract, there's a personality aspect involved as well.

Being on staff with a ball company requires one heck of a bowling resume`, a bowling record that sets you apart from everyone else or seperates you from the "house bowler". Congrats on a fine season with your above average, average.
Companies are looking for a return on their investment, selling their products, representing them and speaking for them, sometimes personal appearances, clinics. One of the finest bowling resume`s I have seen is one I'm giving you a link to, he owns several "Eagles" and has won more titles than several touring pros, he toured with the big boys for a time several years ago but chose to go back to being a regional player, and holding down a job that provided his family with more security, checkout this bowling resume` Not trying to put a damper on your goals, as posted above this post you have to seperate yourself from 10,000 others who average 220 and above. Good luck to you, most of the ball companies accept resumes from Sept thru Dec, based off what positions are available and how financially sucessfull the company has done will determine the number of staff positions they have, and how many current staffers will be signed again the next year.

Jeff is a super nice person, he posts quite abit on the PBA Midwest Regional site, he goes by "Riggs", I have sent him several PM over the past year or so asking various questions and he has aways graciously taken the time to answer all my questions, he is IMO the definition of a "CLASS ACT".
