On Strike...
« on: December 19, 2007, 01:20:04 PM »
Ok, I know I've posted on here before about this but I'm starting an internet radio show called "On Strike" and the show is going to be dedicated to the league bowler and league bowling. We will discuss all sorts of topics from league conditions, to ball tech, to instruction. The show is all in good fun but I'd like some suggestions for what you guys think would make for an interesting show. Anyway any and all suggestions are welcome and I appreciate any input... Thanks in advance...

I like the idea.  Let us all know the time and link to listen in!

Here's a thought; maybe have a call/email in from your listeners where you choose a couple of kudos from local bowling centers, plus throw out one complaint.

For example, from the mailbag you could read "Bob from Kansas City writes to say that CPL Lanes has the coldest beer and hottest chicks in town!" "Ron in Des Moines wants to give a shout out to Thunderstrike Lanes for laying down the great wall of china for his Tuesday night mens league so he can inflate his average and his ego at the same time!"

However, Dan in Miami says that AMF Lanes needs to pay more attention to cleaning up the sticky mess the highschool kids leave on the approaches before the Monday night Classic League.  He's concerned that someone could get hurt.  He goes on to say they need to clean up the mens room too, and their counter personnel could use more training!

I think it would be a big hit.  You know how bowlers like to rant!

That's a good idea too for traveling tourneys and leagues. I'll set up an email where people can email questions about what kind of shot to expect when they get to that center. We've already decided on doing a segment on new balls, instruction, and listener questions. The idea is principally for the show to be by league bowlers for league bowlers. I definitely like the rant segment...LOL.. You're right about that.

It would be cool if you could get proprietors involved, and get their perspective on the game/sport/business as well.

Possibly set up a "roundtable" discussion once in a while from some reputable proprietors, USBC representatives, and maybe a Pro/Regional/upper tier league bowlers to tackle different topics that affect us all.

So far, I like what it sounds like you're trying to do.  I hope it works.

That sounds cool. Where is it going to be located at? I always thought a PBA bowling radio show would be awesome since no sport networks broadcast it on tv or the radio.

The show will be based out of Ft. Lauderdale Florida, but there will be little talk of the PBA. The focus of the show will be on league bowling and league bowlers. I am hoping to get ideas from league bowlers on what they want to hear. The idea of the show is to keep the average league bowler listening, so please, throw the ideas my way

OK, here's a topic for you.

Why do so many league bowlers think they have to bowl for large prize funds to "make it worth the time", but if someone mentions bowling this league on a tough condition one of the first things out of their mouths is, "I don't want to struggle for 150's, I'm just here to relax and have a good time"?

So which is it?  Are league bowlers out looking for good competition and big money leagues, or are they just there to relax and have a good time?
