I put a really short video on youtube several years ago, and can't seem to find it. Don't have anything current, but hope to go out tomorrow or might just get to it Saturday. Simple game, excellent timing, but you can tell it's my off hand, I look slightly uncomfortable or timid on the approach. I don't do much with my right hand, I think it's because I'm concentrating more on maintaining my coordination. I walk up and plant, but I think that's just because I would always do it with my right handed shoes on, just started out for fun initially. I did buy a pair of lefthanded shoes and attempted sliding, but it was always offputting. I don't know whether I should keep trying to develop a slide or not. I have great balance, and have no trouble getting leverage. I am extremely satisfied with my release, and think I'll be able to be very versatile.
I'm having trouble processing my progress. I bowled a full year lefty a couple years ago, but naturally bowl.com is broken so I can't get specifics, but if I remember right I started out with a 160, and ended with a 207. The only spare I had significant trouble with was the 7 pin, but towards the end of the year, I was getting 2 out of 3 I believe. However, it was the only spare I threw straight at, I hooked at everything else. I hook at everything righthanded besides the 10, but I CAN throw it straight and do on tougher shots. I can't throw straight at anything but the 7 lefty yet. I also bowled a summer PBA league lefthanded and finished at 185 I believe.
So am I progressing this quickly because I already know what to do? Could it be a combination of that and house shot inflation? 185 on PBA patterns is solid, but I also played everything completely safe. I hit the pocket and left easy spares, I did the same thing on a house shot too. I don't believe I've really tried to score yet, although I've had some decent scores, and am worried that the problems will show themselves when I do try to start scoring higher.
Meanwhile, what do I focus on? Do I just start with "strike shots" to redevelop my coordination? Do I start with spare practice? Do I attempt to get sliding down first? Do I work with form first? I know where I'd start somebody else at, but teaching somebody else is different, you manage the information you tell them to keep them on the right track. I already know a lot of the information and my ideal end result, but keeping myself slow and focused on one thing at a time is going to be the real challenge. I know it might be hard to offer opinions without a video, but that will be no later than Saturday.
