How about having bowlers bowling against bowlers? Like bowler 1 against 1 and 2 vs 2 and so for.You can have 1 or 2 pts per game won and series a total of 20 pts for 1 pt per game or 40 pts for 2pts per game. For example team A got 15 pts total and team B got only 5pts.That is for 20 pts per nite. And if you bowl 32 weeks have a split season where winner of first half bowls bowls second half winners. All others bowls position week.If a team wins both halfs then they are champions of the league.
I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

At our meeting next week we are voting on the Peterson Point System. There are some bowlers who are not happy about it because there's no match points. The Peterson point system will also stop any sandbagging (we hope) because the points (pins) carry over week to week and every pin counts.

Also, don't you hate getting beat out by 1 or 2 pins after you bowl a good game. In match point you'll get nothing for that game and the other team gets everything. In the Peterson Point system all the other team gets is the 1 or 2 pins that they beat you by.

You can use the Peterson point system in team or singles leagues and in either hdcp or scratch leagues. My league is handicap with a league average of about 205.

An interesting format that I've heard of but never been in a house that used it -- every night is a position round.  First bowls second, third bowls fourth, etc. every night.  I assume the first night would be a blind draw.  --  JohnP

I know someone that has bowled in that format before. He said that the only problem is that you're always playing the same teams. I like the idea of a set schedule with some position nights tossed in here and there.  This way you get to bowl most of the teams in the league during the entire season.

I bowl in a very good competitive scratch league in Il. Here is the format we have used for years. You bowl against your man in the lineup ( team higher in standings puts in line up first) 5 member team. 2 pts for each ind win including totals = 40 pts, 6 pts for team win also include totals = 24 pts. For a grand total of 64 pts per night. Let us know what format your league goes with.

Good luck and good bowling to all...

A way to compromise on the position round situation is, in a four game night,
have the first 2 games be position and the second 2 be round robin.  That way
you can always bowl the team directly ahead or behind you and you still get to
bowl everyone.
