Looking for recommendations
« on: January 02, 2014, 09:38:59 PM »
Over the past few years i have moved towards solid cover stocks. The problem is i get to nationals and they read the mids to early. So last year i bought a motive ascent pearl and it did what i needed it to, the only problem is i couldn't get it to roll up on the back end.

I could jump left and get my solid cover stock balls to the pocket but left flat 10's all day long.

The last time i bowled well @ nationals i had an Ebonite angular one in my hands. Problem is that cracked and has been gone for a while.

Last year i took a Mutant Cell pin over @ 2000, a Nexxus drilled 1:30 @ 4000, new/old visionary blue warlock drilled rico @ 1000, and a motive ascent pearl pin under.

I am a tweener, Looking for something to just recover a little more on the back end than the motive ascent pearl. Yet get through the heads.

My ball driller recommended the 706A, said it will definitely have more pop on the back end.

Thanks all.

I have had luck taking surfaces up on solids in Reno. Last year I had best reaction out if my Nomad at 4000. Too much surface there has killed me. I haven't seen the need for anything too strong. This year I will be taking a Disturbed, nomad, lights out and probably a new ball. I've been super lucky with 3000 and 4000 surfaces. Higher val angles and stronger pin to pap drillings.

Another option could be to look into a hydrid cover if solid's are too early and pearl's don't roll up soon enough. There's a lot of good hybrids out there to choose from.

Yeah, your surfaces look like the problem.  You're never going to get anything 1k or 2k grit down the lane and get it to do something on the back.  I'd stay with a solid, but go to a smoother surface.  That way it will still roll earlier without hooking earlier.  The Eruption Pro is a good suggestion, or something like the Melee, Dude, etc.  I'd also invest some time in learning the Dual Angle layout method, your layouts could be hurting you as well.
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?
