C300 and changing to Utah?

I have been on here for about 5 years now and need some GOOD insight! I have been with Columbia 300 for about 2 years now.  I started when Momentum was released and from there they seemed to be have a perfect tournament arsenal.  Recently still averaging 220 but struggling in league, and feel way off in tournaments.  Sure 660 sounds good but no big games and 220's dont' get you the cash or titles! Many of you will say I may need practice and its the archer not the arrow, but spare shoot is great and coaches even think I am throwing it well.

MY QUESTION IS...what do people see the differences are in Storm and Roto Grip as opposed to Columbia 300? I see that C300 has started to convert to more skid flip but feel that they are doing a poor job.  ANY insight will be greatly appreciated before I get rid of 10 C300 balls and drill 5 new Utah balls, possibly....Thanks!

Yes I think Columbia in inbetween Brunswhick (very rolly) and Storm (very skip/flippy). Where as Roto is trying to do everything that everyone else is doing as well as they are.

I believe the Utah balls to have more durable coverstocks.As at least one of your Utah choices, make sure you get one of the Roto Grip Cells. I feel the Cell is the best ball to come around in 40 years! They are all for the med to heavy range not light conditions. If I were to buy two Cells out of the current lineup, they would be the Pearl(excellent skid/hard arc w/ control) and the Mutant(heavy oil).

Big scores come from matching up how you throw the ball and the lane conditions you see.  There is absolutely no way anyone could magically tell you that one company would be better for you than another.  All companies make good equipment, and you should be able to set up an arsenal with any of them.

However, unless you are under contract with one, there's absolutely nothing stopping you from trying a piece or two from another company to see how it rolls for you.  From there you can decide to mix and match, or consider jumping ship for the other company.

I agree 100%.  I have used everything from Columbia to Brunswick to Visionary to Hammer.  I do the same thing with all my stuff.  I do not put a true skid/flip layout nor do I put a true leverage/rolly layout in my stuff.  I layout my stuff to give me a combination of the two.  I put pin to PAP distances in the 4.5 area and put the cg stacked or close to it and use cover prep and weight holes to fine tune the reaction.  I have ONE single ball with a 2 inch pin to PAP and that is a Black Ice and I use that only when I need serious backend control.  I average 238 in league right now and have near 210 career average at the USBC Tournament.  

With that said, from a pro shop point of view, C300 has the best stuff top to bottom and with that, VERY underrated since alot of people are afraid to try them again.  IMO, I would put Storm/Roto 4th and 5th in terms of best stuff on the market behind C300, Hammer, and Ebonite and those 3 come out of the same building.  The Full Swing should be 2009 Ball of the Year but probably wont get it because it did not sell as well as it should.  Bar none, the FS is the best ball out there most people dont know about.  That ball rolls like Jesus on medium-heavy conditions. Could be that you are not using the right ball for the condition or the layouts dont match up well to what you are bowling on.  Companies dont release bowling balls specifically for just league or tournament conditions.

I say just try some different companies. If you are not liking the skid-flip aspect, then stay away from storm.

900 Global/ (AMF which is the same company) is on the move big time, they have many different reaction shapes in their line, very durable covers and amazing customer service. Everyone i have thrown has been an excellent ball. Every Strom i have thrown has had me scratching my head.

Another vote on stepping outside the box and trying antoher AMAZING company that people often overlook is Lane Masters/ Legends, I will not tAlk about them. I am just telling you go try one and you will se what I mean.

I agree with  you Twohand834.......my equipment is not matching on the floor I am throwing on, or floors in Michigan, I am seeing some wet/dry floors that force me to play in when I am more of an up the back striaght guy (Think of Mike Haugen)
