Bill Oneill's approach

Has anyone ever noticed how small steps Bill takes during his approach? Especially his first step which almost looks like he practically has a 4 step approach instead. Why do you think that is? Stature /timing?

it is simply his approach. Every ones approach is different. Hes in timing, hes got great leverage at the line, he has a very free arm swing. its just how he bowls.

Hmmm, I'm the same way. I have a 5 step app. and they are very small steps and for me I find I have much more control and my timing is rarely out of sync like when I try bigger steps. well, lets just say its not pretty

I take small steps, and I've been told to take bigger ones but a coach friend of mine. I try, but it doesn't feel right and my timing gets worse.
I know it sounds like I'm in denial, but I'm not.

I guess it is just a trigger step - I am doing similar things. I use a 5 step approach, but the first one is just a shuffle, half a foot long. I need it to get my timing with pushaway and 2nd step right. My 2nd and 3rd step are also rather short, since I wait for the pendulum swing, I just start moving upon my power step and then have a rather long slide phase/last step. I found that this way of timing works best for me - but I do not think that it was something special or extraordinary.
