Storm Punch Out vs Motiv Apex Ascent

I am in need a piece between my IQ Tour and Ride with a controllable breakpoint shape.  Looking for length and medium response to friction which I believe gives me a "fish hook" look instead of a "hockey stick" shape.

I threw a friends Apex Ascent at 4000 abralon and give me a nice look.  Before I pull the trigger I was hoping to get some feedback on the Punch Out.

The Punch Out will be a bit more angular than the Ascent but not by much.  It should also be stronger. 

But your two balls are even rolling balls and the Punch Out is angular.  I would probably suggest the Wipe Out instead to give you a better fit between the two assuming that is the shape you like the most.  I would be afraid the Punch Out could be closer to the hockey stick instead of the fish hook.

Drill the Wipe Out for some angularity and adjust the surface to give you the desired length.

Then I would definitely suggest the Wipe Out over the Punch Out.  Could be something with your release (high rotation) that is making the IQ Tour angular.  High rotation and Punch Out could be difficult to control.

Ultimately, your Pro Shop should help you since they know you the best and the conditions you bowl on.

But which of the 4 IQ Tour balls are you referring to ????
The solid, the pearl, the hybrid or the particle??

I'd bet spmcgivern thought it was the solid; I did also UNTIL you said it was angular. The solid will not be angular for the 95% case.

My friend and I both saw some serious response down lane from our Tour Solids. We both went with 5" pin to PAP. His above the MF. Mine in the MF. Not super low VAL angles but not over 50 either.

But they weren't angular by definition. They just had a faster response down lane than one may expect from a ball like this. I recently polished mine and it is indeed quite sharp now off of friction. It doesn't make perfect sense with what most of us have been taught, and even experienced, but its the truth.

As for the Punch Out. I had one for a little while. It was definitely skid/flip for me (5x 40). Almost to much. I have lower tilt and higher rotation so I actually prefer balls that read the mids a little bit. The Punch Out had a very impressive motion but it wasn't in my possession too long because I didn't feel it gave me the right look for my game on my shot.

Without knowing alot about your game I can't really guarantee the Wipe Out would fit between the Tour and the Ride but I can tell you it should. Another option would be the Devour if you are partial to Storm/Roto. Both are great balls. The Wipe Out more so of an "under the radar" gem many never bothered with.

My apex was freakishly strong and angular. I used it last summer on sport shots even and it was one of my best poeces.

Probably more related to strong drill, high rotation, low tilt though

But the Ascent Apexes have a much stronger coverstock than the plain Ascents. Apexes can actually handle true medium oil.

The IQ Solid is the ball I am referring to.   It is quite angular for me.  Box surface.
Another ball on my radar is Wrecker.

44ft on worn anvillane. 6 to 1 ratio, lighter volume

dont know the exact layout but pin above ring, cg out, strong hole ...
perhaps 45 x 4 x 45 P3/4 hole ??

Interesting pattern. I highly recommend the Devour for you. By design it fits in between the 2. I have VERY similar stats as you and drilled a Rumble (similar to Devour) awhile back 45 x 3.5 x 35 with a p3 hole. OOB it was slower responding to friction for sure but was great in the spot intended.

if you are open to other suggestions take a look at the hammer viral.  drilled mine pin under in between the fingers good length with nice smooth back end.  had a punch out last season very long very sharp backend.
