Does keeping your layouts simple make it easier?
« on: December 13, 2010, 04:50:42 AM »
I have been debating to myself lately about keeping my layouts similar and adjusting ball reaction by surface. I read an article where Norm Duke likes to do this. I am by no means Norm but it made sense to me. I typically like my pins around 3 7/8 to 5 1/2 inches from my pap. Would it make sense to keep them in this range and adjust ball reaction by pin heighth and surface. Just curious of your opinions. Thanks in advance.

Well I keep all pins around 3 to 5 but I will have a 2 inch pin also if I can for a reaction. I want. I usally start my equipment with a pin up and a pin down below bridge and then I go off there on layouts. That would be the best way to go in my opinion.

I think for the most part guys do this,  when they find a ball reaction they really like.....

Then on thier other bowling balls they might adjust the pin or cg just a bit to alter the reaction a bit.....

I've done this with my Reign , Reign of Fire and Invasion and Natural... CG is in a similar spot but the pin is adjusted....

Did it with my Virtual Gravity and Theory too...

SO i know if one ball isnt giving me the reaction I want, after adjusting my line/feet or w/e  i grab another ball and go from there..

If you are interested in getting some really knowledgeable feedback on "benchmark" layouts ask around on http://www.bowlingchat.net

Just be sure you have your ducks in a row before asking...

Tilt, axis rotation, ball speed, rev rate and the like will be needed for an analysis.
