Storm Shammy/Master Wipe-It-Dry
« on: August 28, 2015, 04:46:08 PM »
I've been using these for about a year now, I've also only been using Storm/Roto equipment during this time.  If you remember, Storm/Roto equipment is near the top of my list on speed of oil absorption based on what I've seen out of our Detox machine.  Since I started using these, I feel that my reaction has held up much longer due to a significant reduction in oil absorption.  Comparing the number of games I get in between Detox treatments of my equipment to others equipment who either do not towel their balls off in between shots or who use a regular or microfiber towel, to me the difference is very clear and obvious.  These towels remove nearly all or all the oil off the ball.  I just tried to Detox a ball of mine that has 100-115 games on it since I drilled it, even though I haven't experienced a loss of reaction out of it.  A little wisp came out the very bottom, but that was it.  This has been consistent across the board on all of my equipment.  On customers' Storm/Roto balls that either don't use a towel or use a different one, it only takes about 40-50 games before they notice a loss in reaction, and the ball needs to be treated.

Based on my experience and "research" over the last year, the Shammy/Wipe-It-Dry pad has a significant effect on preserving ball reaction due to greatly reducing the amount of oil that gets absorbed into the ball.  For those of you who are into preventative maintenance, these pads to me are at the very top of the list and I highly recommend them!

I love mine!

I used it for most of last year and it's almost entirely black(I have the gray Master one).  Any good recommendations on cleaning it? I was just getting another one because I haven't had great luck cleaning - I tried light dish soap.

Also, when it appears to be completely dirty, do you think it loses any effectiveness?

Mine doesn't appear to.  I had a Wipe It Dry at first, and yeah it got pretty rough looking pretty quick, but I also bowled in a house where they didn't ever clean the pit curtains either, so I got quite a bit of extra junk on the ball.  They recommend just using dish soap and water, but I think it ends up drying the pad out.

I'm using the black Shammy now, and it's gotten a gloss on the bottom of it, so I imagine it's dirty, I was going to try lightly hitting it with a wire brush and seeing what that did.  But dirty or not, it still strips the oil right off.  Based on my Detox results, it's still doing the job just fine.

I have used the Master Wipe-It-Dry for the last 12-15 months and agree with ITZPS and Mr. Nick that the pad is a great product. The pad removes surface oil better than a micro-fiber towel.

Cleaning the Wipe-It-Dry requires a little elbow grease. Soak the pad in warm water and squirt a kitchen de-greaser onto the pad. Then work the de-greaser into the pad with a soft nylon brush. It takes a number of rinses with lukewarm water to squeeze the suds out of the pad. Let it dry for several hours, and you are back in business.

At $18.00 or so, the pad seems a bit pricey, but it is worth it.

Has anyone tried cleaning this with something that's a little less strong like liquid hand soap to prevent drying it out?

. What I do now is run some warm water in the sink, dip the pad into the water to get it good and wet, then put a few drops of Dawn Dish Washing Soap on both sides of the pad, wash it by hand (no brush), then rinse until all soap is removed and lay it out to dry.

I have done this twice now with excellent results and the pad still works like it did when new.

Master Industries Worldwide, LLC which makes the Wipe-It-Dry has a cleaning demonstration on its website at http://www.bowlwithmaster.com/ Off the home page, you go to "Video Vault" where you will find the cleaning instructions. The guy uses a "mild dish soap."

I have cleaned my pad 2 or 3 times with the same type of dish soap. The pad is a bit stiffer than new, but it still works pretty well.

+1 ... That is exactly the way I do it also. In fact, I think I recently made a post either on BR or BBE saying the exact same thing Tommy said here.

Good info guys, I'll have to give it a shot.  I think I may have soaked mine the first time I tried cleaning it, probably a bad idea and why it dried out so much.  Lol I've gotta get one of the blue Shammys when they get the production going.
