« on: January 10, 2009, 05:41:56 AM »
Do any of you pro shop operators have or seen the new Storm Surface Factory Pro machine. Anybody else seen them in a pro shop yet? If so, whats your opinion. We just got ours in yesterday and WOW!! Our first trial was a Roto Spare Tire really abused. 3 min of 360,3 of 500 and 2 of 1000 abralon 4 min polish and BETTER THAN NIB!!!!
I don't know about pricing yet. If you have one, please pm with your pricing.
Thanks

Used one before team event at nationals last year to take polish off a ball, then before D/S to put polish back on. Incredible machine, haven't seen them anywhere else though.

Dewey24, Thanks for the reply. Do you remember the cost to use the machine for the different grit surfaces and polish? I am trying to decide what to charge!!
Thanks

We have one here in alt Lake and it has been a godsend, instead of having to stop doing what we are dong in the back, the bowlers have figured out that they can do their own.
we charge as little as $3.00 for a clean and as much as $25.00 for a complete resurface

I have one in the shop, and it is the best investment I have ever made.  Out of all the machines on the market and I have used them all, this is far and away the best one.  It saves me a ton of work and it does a great job.  If you have any questions pm me.

I've never seen the machine in action but I hear that it works great.

I saw and had some of my equipment put in one of these in Vegas last summer.  Pretty neat thing to have for sure.

On edit, it actually wasn't the pro one.  I have not seen one in person.

Ahhh the wonders of the search function... Was looking for information on exactly this machine. Our local center just got one in about a month ago. I never paid much attention to it besides a casual glance. Last night before league I was noticing my Vis-a-Ball was looking kinda beat up and it's been tailing a bit on me so I decided to try the machine and throw some polish on it. Worked great on my spare ball so I'm going to try a resurface on an older ball of mine tonight before league and see how it does. Talked to the Pro Shop owner about it and he says it does a really good job on all the finishes. Said that if you choose the resurface option, it will take it down to 500 sand first, then up to 1000, then up to 2000, then up to 4000 and then you can throw polish on top of any of those you want. Obviously you can stop at whatever grit you want for your final surface finish and you can also control the sanding times and polishing times for any of them.....
It was $3 for a polish on my spare ball and I think it's $20 for a full refinish with varying amounts for the in-between stuff.
Seems like a pretty slick machine!

We looked at one and it was around $7500.  Problem is how much use it would need to get before it became profitable. In a small center it would be hard to make any money.

Don't use it to refinish your Vis-A-Ball, you'll end up with a white ball.  --  JohnP

Yep, they have a big warning about that printed on the one at our center.
I used it 2 nights ago to polish a ball and it worked so good I decided to take an older ball last night that needed resurfacing and try that. Gave it two long hot water baths before I went to the lanes to get most of the oil out ahead of time. I went with the full resurface back to 2000 grit + polish which is priced at $20.
Visibly, the ball looks awesome....pretty close to what I remember being new. It had quite a large number of scratches which are now gone. I did notice that most of the color from engraved logos is now gone too, so if that's a big deal to anyone....
I'll give the ball a try and see how it works but so far I give the machine a big thumbs up...
