Bowling with "display only" balls.

I got one dirt cheap. Knew what I was getting beforehand. Have any of you thrown one of these? Will I know the difference? I've had a dozen or more blems that I've used over the years, and have had honor scores with some. The ball has the USBC certification stamped on it, so evidently, it is legal for use. Got it from a reputable seller as well.

Unless you can get the statics legal, tecnically the ball should not be used in sanctioned competition. With that being said, there is little chance of it getting weighed, unless you bring it to Nationals, cash in a PBA event with it, or if someone files a protest about its use.

MOST of the "display only" balls are first run and HIGHLY polished. I have 2 Blue Death's. One of them I have kept with the high polish, and use sparingly, the other is NIB. I hope this helps. don

I guess if it has the USBC stamp it must be legal, but you might have a hard time drilling it so.  I know you said you knew what you were getting, but the "display" balls I've seen all had super high top weights that would be near impossible to drill legally.

Having the USBC stamp means it is an approved ball.  You need to have the statics legal to be able to use it in sanctioned competition though...
 
Most "For Display Only" balls have very high topweights, up to 8oz.  if you drill one of these you will be best to keep the cg around the centre of the grip and drill deeps holes.
 
I have drilled some with as low as 4.5oz of topweight which was obviously easy to get legal..

Thanks to all who have replied. This is just an experimental ball, but I will make sure it is legal. I know there isn't a whole lot as far as drilling options, and we're going to have some deep finger/thumb/balance holes. Couldn't pass it up at the price.
