Drilling Prices For Balls Not Bought Here

My Pro shop has recently started charging $65.00 to drill balls not bought at his shop. Now this does include grips and a slug. Does this seem high to everybody else or would you say it's reasonable?

central florida. 25 for drilling, 15 for thumb slug, 5 apeice for inserts.

Or it's free if you buy the ball from the shop.

Well mike I own a pro shop in michigan, we charge $35.00 for drill with grips and plugs. If you buy a ball fom us drilling is included in the price?

Hey, don't pick on me. I'm on your side or didn't Jeffrevs tell you what I told him about going to you for drilling. In any case, I know it's where you work.

My driller NOW charges me $30, if I supply the thumb and finger inserts, $40, if he supplies them, but I have been going to him for 15 years. When he moved an hour and 15 minutes ONE-WAY, I still travel to him for all my drilling.
AND when a customer asks if a ball, which he doesn't know about is good for him and my driller doesn't know abou tit, he calls me for advice.

WHat's fair depends on 40 or so factors, just like drilling a ball does.
WHat kind of rent are you paying, what is the market where you are located (what's the competition, actually?), how much time do you spend on the customer, and so on. If it's a first time 210-230 average bowler who you want to return time after time, you may spend a lot more time than Fred the cheapie who wants the cheapest plastic ball you have and then wants to bargain you down some more. Is it the guy who comes in once a month to buy the newest ball and you have his specs and all his idiosyncrasies on record, so you can drill his ball quickly, etc., etc,

Fair may be $60 or it may be $30 to drill a blank.
Plugging 3 holes and re-drilling, with 3 new inserts, for me is $50; for others it may be $60-75, depending, again.

Based on your knowledge (and Jeffrevs' happiness with what you did for him) AND if my driller were nto available, I'd pay a few dollars extra to have you drill one of mine, but still not $65 to drill a blank.

$15 for blank balls, and $30-$35 to plug and redrill three or four holes depending on amount of plugging material used.

Since I don't use inserts or slugs I don't need to worry about that extra cost.

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. I take it as an honor to be called cheap. My driller has no problems at all with me giving him a set of grips and installing them. He is unlike most other ball drillers I have used in my life, he CARES about his customers and is not out to RAPE them..

I also send him an aweful lot of business that he charges his normal prices which are still very reasonable. It took me awhile to get him to cut deals with me. I have had plug and redrill many balls the past 3 or 4 months. I never ever ask him for a deal, he tells me what to pay and thats what I pay..

My house charges like 75-80 i think .

My friend did that one time.

I thought that was not very smart
I would rather buy from the house if the ball is like 20$ more in the long run because they offer lane insurance if u buy from the house and if you dont you dont get the insurance

I'm so happy to see that BOWLERS have finally seen the light on BALL DRILLING! There are more noting here REASONABLE prices then there are RIDICULOUS prices! The $65 price is OUTRAGEOUS .. my comment is .. if he has so much OVER HEAD that he has to RAPE the BOWLERS .. CLOSE UP!

I had been going to this particular pro shop for close to 25 years, give or take a few years here and there.  On the rare occasion that I brought in an outside ball, he would charge me $40.  When I became interested in Lane #1, he would not order them because they did not use a distributor so if you wanted Lane #1 you were on your own.  I ordered a Lane #1 ball and brought it to him.  He told me it would be $90 to drill "internet" balls.  Even though he wouldn't order one!!!!  Needless to say I don't go to that shop anymore and my current pro charges me $40, with inserts and a thumb mold!  And he doesn't care one bit when I bring him my Saws !

75 bucks where I live so I drive 30miles to get it done for twenty five. I don't burn 50$ in gas going that far so its worth it!

I now have major hook ups on drilling stuff, if I take a ball i got somwhere else to him he will probably charge me about 5 to 7 bucks, i usually just give him like 10 or something or get some food, but before at my old shop he would charge about 25 to drill a ball that i got from somewhere else. For the people that have spent SOOOO much money buyign so much equipment, why do you need all that stuff, seriously like 1000 bucks in 18 months or whatever, unless your like constantly getting and selling stuff and getting mroe money back to buy new stuff, thats just ridiculous
