Frustration
« on: March 19, 2009, 01:35:48 AM »
In the last couple weeks I have had 3 chances for 800 after 2 gaems 279,268=547, 258,279=537 and 300,228=528 and each time I simply did not make the right ball choices or adjustments to match up to the changing lanes conditions. I was able to get to the pocket each time well, just lost carry predmonently ringing 10's. It seems that I am playing farther right than other players on my team and when I move left I am moving into where they have already been and it takes two shots to get lined back up and then I leave the 10's. I have been going with smoother surfaces, more agressive layouts and covers when moving left. Maybe I should tame down and try to stay nearer the same line next time. Any thoughts?

I think if you had a weaker ball/drilling higher pin maybe with polish or higher grit Ablaron pad you might be able to play the same ling a little longer by changing bowling balls.

I have a similar problem where I can start with my Dynamo, Cell or Virtual Gravity playing more down and in maybe a small fade along with one of my other teamates and my other two teammates are swinging tthe ball with dull Cells.  By the time I lose my shot, its a struggle to make a move that will keep me in the pocket and carry.  I drilled up a jolt solid pin above the bridge and this ball will allow me to stay on my line a lot longer.  I also drilled up a Hot Sauce woth the pin below my ring finger offset to the right a little and I can use this ball to move inside and carry is great.  But the Jolt if the shot is there will let me stay there the rest of the night.  I usually have a transition problem my second game and then my third is either my highest or the first game.  But rarely do I get all the way to the third game without changing.

Nicanor,

Yeah.. I am moving left the 1st two games in small moves. It's when I bump upto where others have been is when I get into trouble. I have to make that 5/3 or 7/4 left when this happens.

We are thinking the same thing here. Less surface, weaker shell should at least give me more hold and a different look other than comming in behind the headpin (ringing 10). Lets hope that I get more chances.

pin-chaser,

I've been bolwing with this team all year now, first year with this team, and I know that I have two choices, jump past their line with a ball that can make the turn deep like the hot sauce or change to the Jolt solid.

I'm not that comfortable chaning to the Jolt solid yet, though in practice it has been great and on the occassion we are winning or losing by a big number I work with the Jolt and its going to work better then swinging the Hot Sauce.

With that said, the Hot sauce probably helped save our season Tuesday night.  We are on the bubble for making the playoffs and I thought my Dynamo was burning up.  I needed to strike out in the 10th of the second game to win by 2 pins.  The team we were bowling is a great team and already made the rolloffs.  Long story short,  I switched to the Hot Sauce, moved in and struck the first two frames then 10 pin for the win.  We lost the first game huge. Third game we were out of it, seemed like not a chance but their 3rd bowler went through the nose split with a 5 count, then their anchor left the greek church, i find myself only needing a strike to win, good thing I was paying attention, and the Hot Sauce went out to the break point and as I watched it what seemed like in slow motion, it made the turn and crushed the pocket.  We were all surprised.

With that said, I still think i will have a better look changing to the jolt.  This isn't a plug for either ball, but two options for bowling balls that are similar to these.

You need to find a weaker ball that will allow you to move back near your original line instead of having to jump left.  Might even be urethane.  --  JohnP

JohnP,

This year I have revamped my game. Increased both rev rate and ball speed. I am also projecting the ball better and trying to do more with my armswing (in the slot). Basically, moving from a previous low end tweener (rev rate dominate) to a high end tweener (neither rev rate or ball speed) dominate. In my day. In my day (the 80's) I would have reduced my rev rate ( and set the ball down earlier to produce a straighter path down the lane). But today this does not work. Today you have to revolve the ball more (axis tilt) to produce more length which in turn increases the entry angle. But when the back ends are not fresh spinning the ball more causes the the ball to go longer down the lanes but arc on the back end and not skid snap. This is why I think I get more 10's. Changing surfaces to something like you suggest, might really work, I wont have to spin the ball, I wont have to throw it harder, I will defnitely create more hold and if I get the right layout, I might create the same entry angle... I might shoot a good number on the backend.

Thanks
