Strength and weakness
« on: July 21, 2003, 09:54:12 PM »
Ever notice how almost anyone who wants to change the game wants it to change to favor his or her strength and minimize their weakness?

The straighter stroker type players want to make the game more about accuracy.

The crankers want the game to be more about power.

The high rev players want more oil and the banning of hook monster balls.

The lower rev players want less oil and particle balls or whatever generation of new coverstock that comes along that helps them generate more power.

High-speed players want less oil and aggressive balls.

Low speed players want more oil and less aggressive balls.

Some of this is understandable in that most have developed a game that favors what they like in the game of bowling and what they feel the most important attribute should be.

And trying to reach a consensus of what is a proper balance is between these attributes is impossible.

1. Well of course I want the game to be all about ME!!
If I can't score, it can't be me, can it???

2. To me, the way to change the game in my favor is to become more versatile. I've always been a stroker. My coach has gotten me to the realm of a tweener. My other coach is trying to give me a b/c game of a cranker. Voila - lane conditions don't matter "quite" as much any more.

What I want is to carry a 240 average when ALL around me carry 190.

Bowling? Of course it's a sport.

Sawbones - No problem with what you are stating. But I know that which ever style was hurt that 2 weeks they would complain. And you would hear complaints from the ordinary league bowler saying he doesn't want to get good. All he wants to do is come in each week stand on board xx throw at board yy and have a good time.

Proprietors have been trying to appease the masses the last 20 years and the sport has gone steadily down in participation during that time. But I'm afraid the (scoring) genie is out of the bottle and most want the shot they like.

Mumzie hit the nail on the head. In order for the game to cater to you, then become more versatile. Learn different lines, releases etc... The more you know the better off you will be. And realistically the only enemy on the lanes is yourself, especially when one doesnt know how or where to adjust when a lane condition calls for a move or certain piece of equipment.
