Reading between the lines, I guess you're seeking more ball speed, correct? if so, it can be obtained several ways....
a) Higher backswing
b) converting 4 -> five step approach
c) Holding the ball a higher in your starting position
d) quickening your approach, thus creating more forward momentum to the line (can sometimes lead to greater inconsistency than the previous items)
As for strength training... any bicep, forearm and deltoid (shoulder muscle) exercise should do. Curls for biceps, wrist curls for forearms and dumbell lateral, front and rear raises for shoulders. Almost forgot the most important ... LEG EXERCISES If the foundation is weak, you have to use other muscles to compensate!
NOTE: The more relaxed you are, the easier it is to add speed to your shot. Less 'muscled' shot allows for greater range of motion.
Doesn't take a great deal of force for a 15lb object to knock over lesser weighted objects (especially when it only hits 4 pins!)
Hope this helps.
Good Luck!

P.S. I'm sure others will chime in with suggestions you may want to try
