Posterboy of the PBA
« on: March 02, 2005, 02:20:25 AM »
Who do you think is the poster boy for the PBA. I think it is Tommy Jones. Even though PA is the POY(Player of the Year), so far, the fan base seems to be centered around TJ. I was told that when TJ was bowling Danny Wiseman last week in match play, Wiseman gave up after the first two games in respect to the fact that he knew he was not going to beat him. My source also told me that even PBA bowlers were stopping during mid-tourney to see TJ tear apart the most difficult PBA pattern. I just want to know if you guys think he is.

Don't know who the poster boy is, but it should be CJ.  Got mad skillz and (I hesitate to say this, knowing what I'm likely to get back) is pretty photogenic.  I still can't figure out why he hasn't won (well, there is a LOT of talent out there).

Wouldn't you love to see a show with CJ and Tommy Jones going face to face?

Nobody is better than Barnes now.  Nobody.  He is Mr. PBA, IMO.

DP3 is right. If the PBA had to hand pick their "poster boy" it would be Barnes. Even with the past history of his collar getting tight (staying away from the ch word), they love seeing him in the finals. He portrays a very clean cut, normal image.

To be honest though, the perfect finals for the PBA would be Robert Smith, Chris Barnes, Mika, and maybe Walter Ray. You could cater to old school, new school, the pumped up fan, the casual fan---the PBA wants a variety of poster boys---that way they can pull in a variety of fans.

I have to agree with DP3... Chris Barnes even LOOKS the part.  Plus, he can do anything he wants with a bowling ball.  I think we are going to see a lot more success now that he has the U.S. Open title under his belt.  I think he appeals to both the young and the old school.  I wish him the best.

I think the PBA could do well with a marketing program similar to what Nascar has with the "Young Guns."  Put Barnes, Robert Smith, Tommy Jones, and CJ in an add, pumping them up as the next wave of great bowlers.  Could be cool.

the women i know say brian voss is the posterboy of the pba.....but that's a different story. veteran players like walter ray willimas, jr., norm duke, brian voss, pete weber, and parker bohn III have all the titles and experience. there are younger players like chris barnes, robert smith, patrick allen, tommy jones, and chris johnson that are the future of the pba. right now though, the posterboy of the pba has to be walter ray williams, jr. he has been for over 15 years.

What they should do is take an "old school" bowler and a younger bowler for the poster boys of the pba. Say maybe WRW and CJ, PBIII and TJ. Mix some old with they new why not.
