Question for Vise IT users
« on: November 17, 2008, 04:06:44 PM »
I'm probably getting this system in my equipment soon enough.  So I'm just wondering what you guys do when you need to use your spare/plastic ball to convert the spare.  Do you wait for your strike ball to come back and switch the thumb out and in to your spare ball, or do you have another slug of the same size just for your spare ball?

My thumb shrinks while I bowl.  My thumb is normally swollen to start with I guess, so if I want to keep the hole snug I have to insert 2-3 pieces of tape which I normally neglect.  I will use a larger insert to start with, and switch to a smaller one when it starts feeling big, which is usually after about 8 shots.

I use a regular thumb slug in my spare ball.  I do not need to have the same feel in my spare ball as I do my strike ball.  In fact, I prefer having my spare ball just a little loose so that I don't hang in it and yank the ball left.  I can always add tape if I need to do so.

I put an IT into my spare ball also.  Reason is that my thumb really changes alot, especially when I travel to a different part of the country (USBC Nationals etc.) or when the season changes here in the Northeast.  What I did was to make 2 sets of slugs, one for my primary ball and the other for the spare ball.  I hate missing a spare because I either dropped the ball or launched it down the lanes.  I have 3 slugs in each set and I colored coded them so I could easly tell the difference.  Might be a bit excessive but so far it works for me.

I agree with Stan on his call! I think the feel in the spare ball is VERY IMPORTANT! The added cost to put in the spare ball is NOTHING compared to missing spares because of thumb feeling to big or too small. Out of all the "IT" systems put in at my shop only 1 didn't have "IT" in the spare ball and we put "IT" in before the next week!!!

I would have to agree that having the IT in the spare ball would be great for the same feel.  It's not a huge deal though because at the moment I don't feel I miss spares due to the thumb hole.  It's just if I put the IT in my spare ball, it would make sense to get two slugs of at least my smaller size so I can have one in my spare ball at all times, but there's also the option of saving some money and just using one slug for both the strike and spare ball.
