Wood aproaches
« on: April 08, 2004, 11:35:27 PM »
Played at a lane last nite that had wood approaches and synthetic lanes. Had to change my sole twice because I was sliding too far . I ended up with my red sole (dexter) because I had A fowl on the third strike of a turkey . I was not happy!. Anyone heard of this or have advice or input.

Maybe it's because I'm used to synthetic aproaches

I bowl on wood everything (lanes and approaches) and Most of the time I use the sole I can slide the most with, sometimes I even take the sole off (recomended for maximum slide) and I have no troubles.

Wood approaches, like any, can vary in how slick they are. Some houses are slicker than others. It depends on the wood and the finish.

The difference between wood and synthetics is that whatever they start like they will stay like and they are more consistent from the middle of the approach to the edge.

Synthetics are more sensitive to humidity. You can slip on one shot and stick on the next.

Sounds like you had more than one fowl that night.

I dont like synthetic approaches, but then again I dont slide, so neither bothers me.

had about 3 or 4 fowls. The wood was sanded to a matt finish and I think this is what was causing the long slide .
