I bowled a 6 game tournament last Sunday.  We bowled on Twister pins (which I didn't know about beforehand, but so what?) and I was reminded of a couple of things.
1) the godawful "clank" you hear when you hit them.
2) the amazing number of 9 pins, 4 pins and other pins you can leave on hits that seem to be in the hole.  Not to mention the number of 4-9's you can leave (I left 5 on the day; first and last frames of game 1 and 2, plus another random one thrown in.)

I bowled ok on them (207 on the day, didn't lose a point), but man, I'd forgotten how awful these things are.

ive only bowled with them in reno, 4-9 disasters in the hole, light works nice though!

For the uneducated, what are twister pins? Are these anything like the plastic ones?

Djarum, as I understand it they are "the plastic" ones.  At least they're plastic.  Have a really odd sound when you hit 'em, sort of a "clank", like dropping a chain on the floor maybe.  For sure, you're better off not hitting flush with them - light hits carry well, a tad high might trip the four out, but pocket = strange single pin leaves and lots of 4-9's.  They've used them in nationals; not  sure if they are now or not.

I bowled on some of these back in my youth, about 8 years ago down in daytona.

For me, if I can recall, light hits usually left buckets, flush hits left 4's, and the only way to strike was really high flush, almost through the nose.

I just don't understand what everyone's problems with Twister pins are.  I swear, I have NEVER had pins fly around the deck more than I do at the house around here that has twister pins.  4-9?  not exactly common because if it happens to be standing up theres a 90% probability that some pin will fly over and take one if not both of them out.  Frankly I hate em, but thats because I don't like cake shots and twister pins just makes it even easier (as far as I'm concerned)  I think it may just be a mental thing with everyone.  Ever since they have come out people have talked about how they don't carry and how they just overall suck.  So that immediately gets people thinking that they are going to leave lots of bad shots with twister pins.  and on the occasion that they do leave a 4-9 or something like that they immediately blame the pins.

I don't know maybe its just me and I'm lucky enough to not have any problems with them.  all I know is that most of my friends don't have any problems with twisters and I don't seem to have any problems with them either.  Just my .02

The house that I bowl in the most used them for a several weeks last year.  These pins jump around so much on all hits, that I found they left more than the normal amount of 4s, 4-9s, 8 and 9 pins.  They carried too well, and the only way to really carry a good strike was to hit it light and fling pins around a lot.  Not many people in the house could stand them, cause they turned carry into even more of a guessing game than it already is.
