Best Symmetrical Core Balls
« on: January 16, 2010, 01:18:40 PM »
Okay, I've come to the conclusion that Symmetrical equipment hooks significantly more, and more consistently in terms of shot shape for my particular game. So, I was curious what are the best Symmetrical bowling balls out right now? I will be purchasing your suggestions on Buddiesproshop.com, so if you can limit your opinions to what they currently have in stock it would be greatly appreciated.

I will throw every manufacturer but Ebonite.

Thanks...

Charlest is 100 percent correct on this one.   You do realize that once you put holes in a ball you are making it asymmetrical right?  Maybe a little info would help, how was your stuff layed out?

Essentially, what I found at Kegel was that for me due to my revs and ball speed the ball is basically burning up in the front/middle parts of the lane, and basically has nothing left when it gets to the back. It hooks, but I don't get that amazing read off the spot that people that match up with asymmetrical balls get.

Sucks, because I would love to get the most out of balls like the Cell, Invasion, LevRG, and other great asymmetrics out there, but they just don't match up for me at all. To each his own.

So getting back to the topic, what are the best Symmetrical balls out right now that aren't labelled Ebonite?

Okay this is impoossible to answer.  Every company has great Symetrical equipment.  Plus you don't give anything for which type of shot you are bowling on or what type of reaction you are looking for.  Every single symetrical ball could be mentioned to answer your question.  Not to mention you also exclude ebonite. Does that mean all ebonite products? If so then basically you only want people to suggest Storm and Brunswick.
This is an absolutely pointless question to answer without any information at all.
One final thing, if your shop has been drilling your stuff your whole life, why aren't you going to them for a ball selection and purchase, but instead asking a website full of people that have no idea how you bowl and then buying the ball somewhere else.  Shows a lot of faith in your shop...

What I mean by the "best" is the most versatile in terms of changing ball reaction with coverstock changes. I can drill a couple balls with trick layouts for particular shots, but what I'm looking for are balls that are versatile and proven to work well on PBA/Sport Shots. I don't have a particular type of shot in mind because it more depends on what is available for me on the lanes themselves to determine how I wish to play lane. On a house shot I like to play deep inside so that I can stay in front of the house bowlers, but on a sport shot I prefer to go a bit more direct until I've burned a spot I feel comfortable throwing to from inside.

I would throw Columbia, but I won't throw Ebonite/Hammer until I am completely sure they have their cover issues sorted out.

I like Buddies because I can get layouts from Kegel and they will drill them exactly how I want, and as much as I love Kegel for getting me the layouts, on Buddies the balls are 10 times cheaper and I've never had a problem with them in the slightest. Second I've worked with Chris Fory in person several times so he has an indepth understanding of my game. I trust him completely, and outside of Kegel I would consider him my second set of eyes.

So any suggestions on ball choices? If anyone else has an ancillary comments please keep them to yourselves I only want ball suggestions.

I realize now that I replied to a reply and not the original question, so here is my reply to the OP.

I'm not sure what the BEST symmetric is, but I'm sure having a lot of luck with my A.M.F. stuff. Seems like all the 900Global named stuff is assymetric, while their A.M.F. line is nearl all symmetric (except the Clutch and Clutch pearl).

I have a CODE that just kills our shot here, and they just added the Mega-Recovery which uses a strong solid cover with the Code core to their high performance lineup which includes the Sideways (which is pearl) and the Mega-Friction (which is solid), all symmetric.

This doesnt make much sense to me, to say that asymmetrical doesnt work for you. coverstock - YES but not because a ball is asymmetric.

I agree with charlest.

after all, all asymmetry does (when moved toward your pap) is help generate forward roll. If you are like me then you cant kick the MB to your pap at all as I need a ball to store energy as my release creates max forward roll.

so you may not benefit from an asymmetric core, but that doesnt mean you cant use that ball (assuming you match up to that cover). If you have very little tilt like me then you MIGHT have to just go with a 90 degree drill.

Why not just put the mb spot in the Thumbhole..?? That should take any of the mb or asymmetrical properties out of the layout.. A symmetrical ball will spin up to the thumbhole on a determinator after it is drilled.

just place the pin to pap distance and you should be ok I would think...
