Suggestions for a new ball
« on: January 10, 2008, 11:26:54 PM »
A friend of mine is actually bowling with a 10 year old Dynothane ball (couldn't say which one (it's red if that helps)) and I've just convinced him to buy a new ball.

He's a low speed, low revs full roller and doesn't know which ball to buy.  I put this in the misc section because he's open to all suggestions (any company).

He bowls fairly straight (a small hook) and encounters mostly medium oil.

Any suggestions for him, please?

Thanks.

Anyone?

22 Views and not one reply?

Maybe I'll just tell him to get the same ball as my fav. ball (Brunswick Vapor Zone).

Since he has not purchased a new ball for a decade, buying a top line ball would just be a waste of cash. He would be best off going with a mid-priced & aggressive piece of equipment since he bowls mainly on medium oil, and is a full roller which is going to cut down on his overall hook. Any of the four balls listed below should work fine. Personally I would recommend the Gamebreaker (he will probably need the cover polished just a bit). I don't think you can find a better ball for the buck.

Brunswick Sidewinder
Brunswick Wizard
Storm T-Road solid
Ebonite Gamebreaker

What's wrong with being a full roller?

He's avering 202 at the moment but I'm sur that with a new ball he could do better!

There is nothing wrong with being a full roller. It just seems as though there is quite a bit of misunderstanding as to what a full roller actually is:

The Gamebreaker would be a good choice.  --  JohnP

Well, Jon, this guy is DEFINATELY a full roller. His ball track rolls between his finger holes and his thumb hole. His ball is drilled with the pin in the 7:30 area (next to his thumb hole). His speed and release are always the same, which is one reason why I think that he might progress with a choice of balls to change his ball reaction.

Just about anything that retails in the 130-160 area should do just fine.  Does he rather throw something that is smooth or something designed to go longer and kick in the backend?
