As a gross generalization, I prefer balls that have decent length with a controllable backend reaction. My favorite ball for this pattern is my T-Road Pearl, drilled pin in palm. I have it sanded to 2000 abralon with a bit of polish. I get easy length with this drilling (this puts the Pin about 4.75 inches from PAP), and a very controlled break towards the pocket. It also helps blend that VERY dry 1/2 board area, where most people will tend to leave splits or cross, I usually left a 4 or 9 pin.
For lane surfaces that are well worn, I would probably use a pin-up ball, at a low grit with a lot of polish. Once I used a 4.5 inch pin to pap, pin-up Gravity Shift, sanded to 1000 abralon with 2 coats of polish. Easy length, but still controlled hook.
I haven't tried it, but I want to try this once: A 2 inch pin-to-pap solid, sanded to 2k or 4k abralon. Get into an early roll to just take the wild backends out of play completely.
