is it your anatomy for the bent elbow - natural biomechanics? A friend of mine has a bent elbow through his swing till the area of release where he straightens it out. Nothing wrong with it. He has a sound approach, repeats shots, and balanced at the line. It may not be broke...... just a thought

get a feel for the pendulum swing. practice allowing the ball to go into the backswing then forward with no muscle, then take it to the lanes, get in a balanced position and do the same. when you get about 10 shots in the add slowed footwork, first do the slide and release, then add the full footwork all at half speed.

we have to first get the swing corrected then add the footwork, work on getting the ball started before the footwork, YES you heard me. ball in swing first means little to no muscle. try these out in practice sessions.

First, make sure your grip measurements are accurate.  If you have to squeeze the ball to hang on to it, that may cause you bend your elbow so you don't drop it.  It all starts with the grip.

To add with this. If you want this to truly happen, it is not going to happen overnight. You have to work on it and have someone watch you bowl (or video yourself) to make sure your arm is indeed straight.

You are changing something. It is going to feel awkward. Use a phrase in your setup on the approach about keeping the arm straight. Like right before you throw state "Keep it Straight!"

Work hard at it and it will come to you. I know many bowlers that try to change something and they go right back to their previous way of throwing. And many have no clue that they back to their old ways.

Sound advise here....  I also in the past have struggled with a bent elbow,  and did a combination of all things that have been mentioned here, and it took me a few yrs to correct it  (also fixed several things along the way).

But as mentioned above,  you have to experience different motions during practice to get a feel, which again as stated, wont happen overnite.  Good luck.

What "xrayjay" said made me think? I will need to get others to advise me on this. Is it an issue or am I trying to fix a problem that isn't there?  If so I may just wait till the off season to work on this. Like a habit it's very hard to break. I will do some more research on this and if needed I will correct it.

All very good points, indeed. I developed a bent elbow many years ago in an effort to
develop a power game (it didn't work for me).  It took me a very long time (and a healthy dose of patience) to correct it ( as Trash Heap said, it takes time!). Also, having a proper fit is a must, as GlobalDestruction pointed out

The best tip I ever got (and one that I pass on to my students who have the same problem) isto focus on your bowling shoulder throughout your stance and delivery.
Focus on keeping your bowling shoulder muscles RELAXED throughout the entire approach. By keeping your bowling shoulder muscles relaxed, it is impossible to bend
your elbow.

Good luck!
