More Hand... Scoring Easier
« on: April 29, 2004, 11:18:30 PM »
OK... I performed an experiment last night. Decided to go back to OLD 1970/1980 physical game where I lengthen approach opened up thumb hole and just hit the ball. It was a THS condition of course as I subbed in the last night sweeper. I shot 299,276,227 =802 then stayed to pot bowl after averaging around 250 for another 6 games. (Went xx9/xx9/xx9/x9/ the last game, 9pin,4pin,8pin,10pin).

I sprayed the ball probally 8 to 10 boards at my breakpoint and still hit the pocket. With the more hand, I had increased carry. So I wanted to see how much room I had the other way and could spray the ball 3 boards at my break point and still have a chance to strike.

It hit me last night like a ton of bricks just how easy todays equipement and conditions can make this game when you have enough revolutions. Heck it was fun last night, and not like work that is has been the last two years trying to come back.

Perhaps I am born again. Perhaps understanding the reality as clearly as I seen it last night I have lost even more respect for the game. I guess I have to think through it a bit more. But I have mixed emotions at this moment.

I think you're missing the point...

With the equipment today, on a real hard pattern the game is still very difficult, and still a sport (which you should have respect for. ). However, for the recreational bowler, the new equipment makes the game a lot more fun.

Breaking 200 for the first time was so awesome, and at that time there's no way I could have done that with a house ball.

Pin-chaser       I guess you had fun!

Maybe you should write an article for your
Web site. I need more details." Opened up the thumb hole and
just hit the ball" you have been bowling for 30 years and a 210
average, I think you know how to (just hit) the ball pretty
darn well.
Bye the way I have visited the web site and really liked reading
all the tips, being a woman I liked the ones  by Michelle Mullen
the best. .    Girlscout

I have been saying exactly that on this site for over two years now.  On the THS I bowl on, if you can "turn it up", you have area for days.  Plus, the pins scatter around on the deck like they can't wait to fall down.

I bowled against a guy last night who puts a great roll on the ball.  He's very smooth, would make all of the guys who've posted videos on this site look like chumps.  Because of his ball's roll/action, he doesn't need to be accurate, although I think he could be if he needed to.

He threw a 776 series against us without even trying, completely effortless performance.  I, on the other hand, missed my mark by more than two boards twice all night, and was rewarded with a wonderful 634 series.

No complaints, my game requires accuracy, because I can't "turn the ball up" the way some guys can.  That's just the way it is.

Welcome to bowling in the 21st century.

pin-chaser,

1. Did you keep your relaxed span with forward pitches in both fingers and thumb with opening up the thumb being the only difference?

2. Do I need to be opening up my thumb more on this new relaxed fit?
