Summer league - ideas
« on: February 12, 2010, 01:18:28 AM »
I am running a league this summer here in Phoenix

http://www.revolutionsproshop.com/Lists/Revolutions%20Summer%20Challenge/AllItems.aspx

What is not listed on that page is that there will also be a double elimination bracket starting in week 2 going through the last week with its own prize fund.

Anything you would like to see that would make the league more appealing to you?

Interesting format, but why bowl on the house pattern for half the league? Which two balls will be used during the league?

Yeah...I'd like it to be closer to the Bay Area.

I do like the idea, though...good luck with the league.

The surface we are bowling on is not that great.  Scores are lower in this house than anyhwere in valley.  Most bowlers will lose 10-20 pins when coming from another house.  I tried to set the patterns up from low to high scoring (in that order).  The house pattern is only for 4 of the first 12 weeks, so you are not getting a high dose of it.

Most likely the balls will be the C-System 3.5 and the Python.  I have to go with brunswick because because of cost.  I also think those 2 balls will compliment each other nicely for different patterns.

Sounds like a great idea. I bet the pro shop will be happy.

The problem I see is that the averages are going to be low by the time you get to the Cheetah. Is there going to be a pin drop cut off from your entering average? I can see a sandbagging problem if you don't have a 5 or 10 pin drop after the first 12 games.

With the Cheetah being second and THS being third, the league average is going to climb rapidly by the time of the position rounds.

Does everyone get the same 2 balls? If so, surface prep will be the key.

Jpratt,

Everything sounds good about the league..  but the whole letting the #1 team choose the oil patterns for the last couple of weeks.. I'd probably let the last place team choose.

That way, you dont have the 1st place team, picking a pattern that intentionally favors them..

I like it. It gives you a good incentive to be in 1st place. It's sort of like home field advantage. It's done in all sports.

Actually, the format should discourage sandbagging.  The lowest scoring pattern is first.  Most people will be 15-40 under their entering averages anyhow.  I also am running a double elimination bracket (team totals) that starts in week 2 with it's own prize fund.  Sandbag early and you will most likely knock yourself from the bracket.

Yes..everyone gets the same 2 balls.

The position rounds are set up to actually reward the team that is in first.  The doubles matchpoint is 4 teams to a pair.  You will bowl each team on the pair, individual, team totals, series (3 points for a win, 2 for second, 1 for third) 36 points a night.

you should do a siege and an evil siege if your gonna use brunswick.
if you were to go to storm, though, VG and VE would be pretty cool
