We are just starting our Mixed Summer league here (6 teams of 4 bowlers) and I am looking for some ideas to add a little more fun to the league. It's a very friendly league and since it is summer we are looking more for enjoyment than for the competition. Well, most of us are anyway! I was going to suggest a low cost voluntary strike pot ($1 per bowler per week) with the target being a strike in the 4th frame of game 1, 6th frame of game 2, 8th frame of game 3. Ties would split the pot and no winner = pot carries over. We don't have any really high-rollers so that would be challenging enough and I want it to be at a level where it would encourage participation. I was also considering what I will call a 'spare pot' or 'split pot'. I've never heard of one but the idea would be whoever picked up the most 2 or 3 pin splits that night would win the pot. Degree of difficulty of the split would not matter. This is something that almost any skill-level bowler could compete in. (Assuming this doesn't tempt people to throw splits on purpose of course!)
I am sure there are plenty of good ideas out there that would add a little side interest to league bowling beyond the normal week-in and week-out stuff. I'd appreciate you guys sharing your favorites or even some wacky ones that you may have come across!
