Title: summertime bowling plans
Post by: mumzie on March 28, 2004, 10:52:06 PM
I'm doing something different this summer, so I thought I'd ask all of you what you plan to do...

Instead of bowling the scratch doubles league this summer, I feel like I've got to actually get serious this year.

So - the gentleman who would have been my partner in the league has agreed that we will set up 2 nights a week as a standard practice time. We'll bring both video cameras down some of the time, and go to it. We are going to line up what we'll be working on in advance, so we can prepare mentally and physically.

Here's my goals...
At the end of the summer I want to never miss a single pin spare again. Ever.
I want to not only know HOW to change hand positions, but understand WHEN to change.
I want to understand my equipment. All of it.

Mumzie, aside from bowling a Monday night mixed league. I will also be practicing 2-3 nights a week. I will be working on release consistency and getting my spare shooting percentage above 95%. I will also be video taping every other week to check on my progress and prevent any bad habits from developing.

Um, well, since one person was booted off, him, I and BK are forming our own team.  I hope the old team doesn't mind, since we all car pool.  Two of them won't care, but I'm not sure about the other, the captain, who ordered the dropping of Friend A.........I just hope he doesn't try to make it a war.......but I'm sure he was trying to get rid of me too.......

Anyways, I hope to keep a 185-190 average.

My plan is to bowl a Tuesday night adult junior league with my daughter and father in law, and also practice on the weekends whenever lanes are available. I too plan on working on different hand releases, playing different positions on the lane, and also work on adjusting my overall ball speed.

I will be letting my equipment ferment and hope they come back stronger in the fall. Actually will be working on physical game and shape during the summer with maybe a trip to Sebring,FL to Kegel for some more insight. Can't talk the wife into Superschool in Vegas.

Wednesday night Adult/Youth league with my son, and it'll be plastic only (we have matching Ed, Edd & Eddy Viz-A-Balls)

Monday night will be a sport condition league for helping with my spare shooting skills (which is suddenly going downhill)

This is currently my dilemma. Our house is rumored to be the toughest house in the area. But, in the summer, they put out an insanely easy walled shot to try to boost egos and entice people to join the tougher condition winter leagues. Last summer I bowled the summer league and finished 23 sticks over my 2002-2003 winter book. Hence, every tournament I've entered this year, I've been rerated to my summer league average, even though my current normal conditions winter average is 17 sticks lower than my last year's summer average. It hasn't been a fun season of handicapped tournaments for me. The answer isn't to bowl scratch tournaments, because I'm really not that good yet. I'm still learning the basics. So, do I forego summer league this year and use league nights for practice sessions? Do I throw only plastic in summer league and work on my accuracy? Do I move to a different house for a new experience? Or am I missing an even better option?

You could find a decent summer league that does not get sanctioned.

I am going to golf as much as I can..  Bowl every now and then in ABT tournaments in Salt Lake City.. as long as it doesn't interfere with any of my golf tournaments.. hehe..  I am a golfer who bowls!!  Single digit handicap in golf and over 200 avg bowling.. so, I guess you could say single digit handicap in both!!

Im trying to talk my buds into rolling a doubles league here on tuesday nights.  PBA (not sport) conditions with a 2400 cash out for first (depends on # of entrants). Im not really interested so much in the cash, I just want to try rolling on something different from the usual house shot for a couple of weeks and this sounds like a great opportunity to work on my game.  Of course,  doesnt seem like any of my friends want to commit to anything over the summer,  so i may just get stuck practicing once or twice a month.

Mumzie,

I dont know where you live, but if I ever find out I will be moving there. I completed admire your drive and determination. It is rare and I would simply love to participate with you and have some of that rub off. I want nothing more (afte 30+ years) to get back to and improve my talents. Doing it alone is tough.  I wish you all the best.

This year, I will be taking the summer off to rehab the 4 injuries that I have been playing with for the last 3 years.. Like my mom always told me, it'll never get any better if I keep picking at it.
