Well my league has ended and it has been decided that it will be 100% handicap of 230 for next year. I was thinking it should be 90% but the vote was for 100. Some guys with the high averages we're saying "Hey, if you want to give me pins. Go ahead. I average 216 this year and was getting 3 pins handicap. I will take the 14 pins next year!" These guys just don't understand how bowling handicap works. There is going to be alot of complaining next year with these same guys.

WHY IS BOWLING HANDICAP SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND

Another decision was decided to have NO LIMIT for team average. Things are going to be very interesting next year.

   You lost pins not gain them... The additional advantage you gain was the 10% (difference in average) that now is gone. Now that is 100% you have a tougher road ahead.

example:
                  170ave     190ave      220ave
  80% of 230   170+48=218   190+32=222   220+8=230
  90% of 230   170+54=224   190+36=226   220+9=230
 100% of 230   170+60=230   190+40=230   230+10=230


You might be getting some pins but everyone get 10%/20% more than they would have last year.


And if you factor in any sandbagging that usually occurs 100% of the difference really gives them a distinct advantage.

Getting all the pins I can.

MIN BOB .. The method I talk to compares TEAM TOTALS of each TEAM and establishes a difference and that difference is the HANDICAP of the lower average team. The team that bowls MOST PINS over their average will be the winner! In your example you use a BASE .. that works as long as ALL bowlers are UNDER the base .. but I say to you .. WHY USE A BASE?

ADD up the averages of each team .. subtract one from the other .. RESULTS are the HANDICAP for the lower TOTAL AVERAGE TEAM. It's SIMPLE and FAIR .. bowl OVER your TEAM average more then the other team .. YOU WIN!

If the league gets a STACKED TEAM .. let them bowl their AVERAGE to compete .. giving them pins because they have a higher average MAKES NO SENSE TO ME!!

ON EDIT: My method would have the teams tying when EACH TEAM bowls and equivalent amount above or below their TEAM AVERAGE!

One more comment .. 100% handicap was the RIGHT THING to vote in .. the CAP was the UN-NECESSARY thing .. 230 was a high enough number so that there won't be anyone slipping in (as MUMZIE was suggesting) however it would have been smarter to give the lower team 100% of the difference between the two teams! That is COMPLETELY fair! Then it's a matter of NETTING the +/- related to average the TEAM most over AVERAGE WINS!
