Surface Management
« on: November 02, 2016, 04:22:35 PM »
I just read a very informative article on BTM about surface management and it got me wondering if there's a difference in using Abralon & SiaAir pads to the CAB system to get the desired surface on a bowling ball.  Has anyone used both?  if so, have you noticed a difference in surface texture/roughness?

CAB's are contoured sanding blocks designed to assist with the resurfacing process. Almost any abrasive, including Abralon and Siaair, can be applied using CAB's. What system are you talking about?

I bought my CABs and some of the referenced hook-and-loop sandpaper disks from Jayhawk many years ago. At the time, scotchbrite was becoming popular, and I ended up using the CABs for applying scotchbrite instead of sandpaper disks.

What you're really asking for is a companion between using sandpaper and Abralon/Siaair. Many still swear by sandpaper, while others have completely converted to the newer abrasives. I called Jayhawk earlier this year to ask them their thoughts on the comparison. They told me they felt a good combination was to use their system for lower grits, but use Abralon/Siaair to finish off at higher grits.

Experiment with both. That's the only way you'll know what works best for you.

I'll try that.  Thanks very much Steven.
