SURVEY: Cranker, Tweener, or Stroker?
« on: October 02, 2005, 02:45:49 PM »
Okay, here's the deal... I've been bowling for about 5 or 6 months now pretty seriously. I've been working really hard on my game and practicing my rear end off! (100 games this week alone I counted ) I'm in my first league season and doing pretty well so far... Here's my question for survey:

I have played with my hand positions like crazy and I am able to throw as a Cranker, Tweener, and a Stroker each pretty successfully, but I don't really favor one over the other consistently on a daily basis. I'm at the point where, for the sake of consistency, I need to choose a style and stick with it.

WHICH STYLE SHOULD I CHOOSE???

(High games: Cranker = 256, Tweener = 249, Stroker = 279)

Some people say that Bowling is a lot like Golf.
It's fickle and precise, not to mention that the equipment is especially important.
I've been known to break golf clubs and throw them in lakes to take out my frustration...
Do you think I'd get in trouble if I chucked my X-Factor through the pro shop window?

i would stick with the stroker or power stroke style. you will have a lot more consistancy, and in the long run the cranker style can damage your hand. so if you can play all of these styles i would pick stroker

don't pick one, use all 3 to ur advantage. If ur serious about getting into the game and making some cash then u can use all 3 of the styles to benefit u on certain patterns and give u that much more margin for error, but if u just wanna stick to the casual league bowler who goes out for fun and a good time each week than just pick what makes u feel the best.

hope it helps

I do plan to get into the game VERY seriously. My plan is to keep all three styles in my back pocket, but I'd like to choose a PRIMARY hand position and line, if that makes any sense at all.

I would choose the tweener style as your main style.  It's the best of both worlds.

I would see what you are most accurate with. I obviously throw without my thumb. To some that is wrong---blah blah blah. Anyway---I am much more accurate throwing without my thumb than I am with my thumb in the ball. Ive had nights where I can literally pick boards throwing NOTHUMB but I never feel that way thumb in. People will say "Do X style---it works for me". Well do what you feel comfortable doing. If you are accurate throwing the ball straighter---go for it. If not, do something else. If you really cant tell, have someone watch you. Tell them what board you are trying to hit at the arrows and what you want to hit at the breakpoint---see what you hit more consistantly with all 3 styles. Go with that.

Its easier to adjust throwing a stroker line in my opinion---if I could be MORE accurate throwing down and in I would.

I hate to say this, but I'm not sure what the differences are.  I know crankers have high revs, but as far as hand position goes, I'm not sure of them.
