Survey for Handicap League Bowlers
« on: April 24, 2008, 12:02:49 AM »
League Championship is next week and it goes by total pins with handicap.  Just wondering one thing though for how to approach this and what would be the better way if there is one.

The question is:  Since it is handicap and goes by total pins, would you set up the team by head to head matchups based on average against the other team or would you simply leave the lineup the way it has been all year?

The first half of the year we couldn't lose a game, we won by a long margin.  The second half we have struggled, just can't get everybody on the same page at the same time.

The main reason for asking the question as stated above is because we have some clear matchup problems with the team we are facing if we go head to head.  We are going to be getting about 60 pins handicap a game on the team we are facing.  There highest average bowler right now is going to be going up against our lowest average bowler which is about 50 pins difference right there.  In my personal opinion, I would rather put him against someone that is more towards his average and match up by average so we aren't using up our per game handicap potentially on one bowler.

Just curious to see people's thoughts on this and the responses, any advice would help as well.

I would leave the lineup the same.

Seems like everytime someone tries to get cute changing lineups it back fires.

It is total pins, not matchups, and if the majority of the team difference is between those two bowlers then so what if you use up most of the handicap there? That is what is for.

I do not care at all about who is matched up with who in a handicap league where it's about team pins.  I want my best, most clutch bowler in the anchor spot (usually ends up being me, actually), and I want another clutch bowler in my leadoff spot to get some momentum going heading into the 10th frame in a tight game.  Otherwise, it just doesn't matter all that much.  If it does, you're taking things too seriously and thinking about it too much.  This isn't a $10k to win event or something, it's a handicap league.  Just bowl your best and have fun.

I agree with Dan, it is a handicap league with team pins that matter, I also agree that you want your clutch bowlers bowling leadoff and anchor.  Relax and let the ball roll!  Good luck.

If the current lineup got you there, leave it alone.

Teams have chemistry - good or bad. Changing the lineup can change that chemistry - not always for the good.
