Survey on Drillings

Who has a ball drilled with the pin 3" or less from their PAP?  What ball is it and what are your experiences with it?

heavy arc roll with a strong backend.Needs good oil.

Lane 1 Tsunami H2O

Layout 2x6...pin 2" from PAP high with MB under thumb (6" to PAP)

Surface is 2000 grit Abralon with Secret Sauce

The ball clears the heads easily and has a smooth read of the midlane but doesn't read too strongly.

The backend is smooth and even...definitely not snappy.

Pretty close to the axis six pack.  That must be a strong ball if it still needs heavy oil with that drilling.

Doug, do you have any asymmetrics around the 5" mark?  If so, how does the flare of that ball compare to your Tsunami?

Storm Jolt Solid 2" pin-PAP CG about 130° so no balance hole

I really like it. I got it for short oils mainly, but is also good at toning down over/under on fresh house walls. The drilling and solid coverstock makes the ball want to get into a roll pretty early and on some patterns gives me a really nice hook-set type reaction. I have mine around 1000 abralon with light polish over the top to try and maintain some energy for the when it gets to the dry.
It's my benchmark ball on any walled up shot, short (less than 36ft) or medium-light patterns.

Wizard 2" pin to PAP. Great for smoothing out reaction on wet/dry. Not quite an every day drilling, but when the lanes were goofy it shined.

yeah,I was suprised just how strong it was for me.I wouldn't call it a heavy oil ball but it's no good when it forces you inside either as the backend move is not as angular,just like every one told me it would do.

Strike Dom....to be honest I dont have ANY asym balls in my bag at all...asym balls, my style and our lanes just dont add up to a successful situation.

I am going to drill up a Hot Sauce as soon as they become available so maybe we'll go that route with that ball!!!

I kinda know what you mean about not matching up well with asymmetrics, but for me I think the biggest reason is layout.  I'm very tempted to get a Virtual Gravity, just need to make sure I do it right if I do.  Please do let me know what happens with that Hot Sauce.

I drilled a Hammer Pyscho with a pin up, 3" to my PAP layout. The ball seriously needs a LOT of oil for how I throw it. I can barely ever use it, and now it's just my tourney ball. I can't stand the flat 10 pins it leaves on everyday house conditions.

*on a side note, I have another Pyscho drilled 5 1/4" pin up from my PAP, and it rolls tremendously better than the 3" pin Pyscho!

I had a Monster Bruiser at 800 sand with pin 2 1/2 inches from my pap and a large weight hole.  The ball was very smooth and rolled well on wet/dry conditions.  I used it primarily at the Teen Masters national finals a few years ago.

To those that have answered and others that have a ball drilled with less than 3" pin-PAP, how does it compare to your asymmetric ball drilled with 5" or more pin-PAP in terms of track flare?

resurgence 3 diffrent
1 drilled 2x4 and polished up, te get lengt. flares the whole ball.
1 drilled 5x3 OOB very very strong. with medium flare.
1 drilled 5½x4 polished. has very tight flare lines and 3 diffrent balls

I have a Nsane LevRG 70x30 with a 2 inch pin, ball goes long and has a strong movement on the backend. OOB finish.

i have a track temper with a 4 x 5 drilling and it just wasnt working for me.  so i thought to try something different so i plugged it and put a 1 1/2" pin to pap and MB at 110°.  which put the MB right under my thumb.  took the surface to 2000 Abralon, and WOW!  this ball woke up.  Good legnth & midlane with a strong angular pop on the backend.
