And1_headach -- I'm assuming you are a new bowler and this is a legitimate request for information.  The ball track is the area of the surface it rolls on as it travels down the lane.  After you throw your ball and it returns, look for a line of oil on the ball that makes a circle around the ball - that's your track.  If there are several different tracks, you have a ball with a dynamic core and are seeing what is called track flare.  Because the core is moving toward a stable position, the ball rolls in a different area each time it makes a revolution.  In this case, the track is the oil line closest to the thumb and fingers.  --  JohnP

Actually it is the oil ring closest to the thumb and furthest from the fingers. This is the ring that is made on the first revolution of the ball and it is the ring used to locate a bowlers Positive Axis Point (PAP). As the ball goes down the lane the track flare gets further from the thumb and closer to the fingers.

What happens when the track starts crossing the finger holes???  I've been noticing my track for the last couple of weeks and its been fine, I guess, to the left of the thumb and finger holes.  Last night, however, I noticed the track going across the finger holes.  Consequently, my ball was all over the place, sometimes hooking too much and sometimes not hook much at all...and my scores suffered.  What was going on???  Was I making a swing motion/release that was causing this?  I have made some changes recently with grip/release and am getting many more revs than before but until last night, I had not seen the track going across the finger holes.  I'm not sure how the ball is drilled...its a Monster with the holes drilled below the "B", the pin is slightly below and to the right of the ring finger.  I guess what I'm asking is, have the changes I've made affected the way the ball is now rolling or was it possible that I was just having a "bad night"?

stormin1 -- Of course, you're right about the initial track location.  I must have been asleep when I posted that, thanks.  --  JohnP
