Tacky Thumb mold
« on: March 11, 2010, 02:46:15 PM »
The material that makes up my thumbhole mold has a tacky feeling to it and when my hand gets sweaty, my game is over. Cant get out smoothly, even though the fit is fine. Any way I can make the material smooth until I get it changed? It seems like only the black molds are tacky. The grey, red, purple molds are much more smooth. Is there a reason?

The holes are clean. I used a paper towel with alcohol. Its just that there is a difference in feel between the colors. I just noticed this. When my hand sweats, the base of my thumb gets really tacky. That is another problem that I'm trying to solve.

What kind of thumbhole mold do you use?
There are several and made of different material.

When you say a mold, are you makeing your own?? With what brand of material. Maybe putting in too much coloring? Not mixing enough? When I do custom thumbs for my customers I use Wizzard brand plug. Seems to work the best.
If you are saying mold and actually using a sleeve/insert is it urethane or vinyl? Vinyl is soft/plyable and you might be getting the drag from that!

Its a custom mold made by my proshop of an existing thumbhole. I'm not sure what the material is. Maybe its the coloring.

That works for me too, whether it's grime or humidity. Often any sandpaper will do, 400 grit is fine. Just one or two swipes is usually enough. Of course you don't want to make it bigger.

I use to wipe the inside of the thumbhole with Acetone.  This use to help smooth the surface of the thumbhole and clean it at the same time.

Use 1000 or 1500 grit sand paper to clean hole. It will clean the hole as well as not enlarge the hole plus make the hole slicker.

Thanks everybody! As far as the sandpaper, do you use it wet or dry?
