Tales from the PBAWC,
« on: March 21, 2004, 09:05:32 PM »
Went to the World championships Friday. It was my first time attending a PBA event. I was wearing a new jacket and decided to turn it into a walking autograph pad. I got Duke, Weber, W.R. Williams, Barnes, Voss, and last but certainly not least, Carmen Salvino.

My wife and I had a blast, and we will certainly be going to some tournaments next year.

How was Barnes in person?  Is he a nice guy?

They were all really nice to me. Chris was friendly. I talked to Pete and his wife the most.

Funny story, my wife was sitting in a booth in the lounge waiting for me, Pete's wife who is also a blonde was in the next booth over. I spotted my wife and walked across the room through a bunch of people to sit down. I guess I lost my bearings, because when I walked up and sat down in the booth, I start talking to my wife (I thought) when I look up, it's not her! I say real quick, "oops I'm in the wrong booth" She just had the funniest look on her face, and my wife who was in the next booth is cracking up. When Pete walked over my wife told him I was trying to steal his woman. He didn't think it was that funny. we had a laugh. All in all, it was just neat to sit next to and talk to my favorite players like this, super cool experience for me and my wife.

Spive, I don't know if I'll get too many more sigs on that one. The only other guy I really wanted to get was Amletto, but he got beat and he was gone. I could have gotten more, but I was being picky and only getting my fav's. The signings are across the back and on either breast. I'm thinking of putting my award patches down either sleeve to make it personalized. It's really sweet.

Yeah I was lucky enough to get Amletto's signature
at a tournament once.  He is very nice.

My wife was really impressed with Norm Duke, as was I. He was probably the most jovial of all that I saw. After his early match, he took a lot of time to do autographs. When he came out from stowing his equipment, he was playing with some youngsters. He's just a really nice guy.

Yeah, we laughed like crazy. It would have been funny to me anyway, but being Pete's wife...  My wife was wearing my recently acquired 300 ring, and when I slid into the booth, I go "give me my ring back" and then I looked up to see who it was. I probably turned about four coats of red! I recovered pretty quick though, that's when the laughing started. She's like "I didn't know what you were doing telling me to give you your ring, I thought you were nuts or something".

I'd love to bowl at that house. The lounge had great food too, very good prices. I didn't really scope out the pro shop very well, but it seemed pretty steep. I figured it's probably like most pro-shops, there's the price on the ticket, and then there' the best deal price if you're a regular or repeat customer.

Another tidbit, if you want to get Carmen Salvino's john Hancock, you're gonna have to work for it. He was three feet away from my wife and I. We both yelled at him about 4 times before he heard a thing. LOL I was like "that guy's deaf as a post" but then he finally heard us. I was about to give up because I thought maybe he was ignoring us on purpose, but when he turned around you could tell he hadn't heard at all. He was very gracious and friendly as well.

Sounds frightening & like stuff we dont want to know about.

Keep your stories about your BMs to yourself.

Tales from the WC indeed.
