Turbo switch grip question
« on: April 08, 2005, 10:53:50 AM »
Just bought two used balls with the Switch-Grip system in the thumb. The balls did not come with the slug that goes in the ball. The holes containing the sleeves appear to be 1 3/8. Talked to a pro-shop and they said they get $20 for the thumb slug and drilling of it? That seems a little steep to me, but maybe it is the going rate. Does anybody have some info on this system? I have looked at the web site for Turbo 2n1, but they do not give pricing.

The retail on the sleeve/slug is $35 roughly, most shops charge $20 on an individual basis.

Thanks, Nick. Do you use it in your balls? If so any problems with it?

I've done plenty of customers bowling balls, without any problems. The only problem I run into is getting the drill depth dead-on when doing a sleeve. Sometimes if a customer has a mix between old equipment that has been beat up and resurface vs NIB stuff, we have a problem. I'll just ask for the thumb insert and I can nail the depth every time.

As far as durability goes, they are top notch. No breaks yet, just make sure they don't drill too deep thru the slug! If you just *tap* the locking part with the bit, the piece is TOAST.

Myself, I use exactacated thumb molds. Used to use Vinyl ovals, then slugs, now this. It is truly awesome!

Fabes,
The price is in line with what we charge.
I do use and I love it. I have had no problems at all.
My thumb is also a custom molded thumb. It takes a little longer but it is well worth it.
