By no means FIGJAM, but it felt good.
« on: March 11, 2008, 05:44:08 AM »
Some of you know I've been really struggling all season to the tune of -20 from last year. I know I can average 195-205 and Randy at Kegel said with many of my physical stats I should be averaging 220. Well, although it wasn't a great tournament performance, I did have a few games that felt really good including a 269 with a front 7, 9 out and punched out 9th and 10th. My highest game this season was only a 245 until the 258 and 269 this weekend. I didn't even have a string longer than 4 until then.

This is really just blogging, but feel free to comment.

Good for you!  It feels good to "buck" that monkey off your back.  Unfortunately, he finds his way back on.

Sounds like some hard work is starting to pay dividends!
What ball(s) did you use? I know we PM'ed earlier this year, and we discussed  your possible switch to a heavier ball that was a particle pearl to help with the over/under and "muscling" of the ball. Just curious how that worked out for you.
Anyway, congrats on your good game!

I hate to say this, but it feels good knowing I'm not the only one in that situation, hehe :
I mean, our situation is identical down to the numbers.

I just got coaching last weekend and it's helped a lot already. I went from dreading bowling to being excited about it again.

Thanks, mvas. I plan on practicing much more from now on. My pro shop staffer got me turn turn towards my target and told me to revert back somewhat to my older style. Feels really good and not as forced as before although I look pretty good on my Reno videos from last Spring with the other form.

Where's FIGJAM_POLICE?  Just kidding, that is pretty exciting and I remember you've had some problems lately.  What have you been working to improve/what seems to be the overall culprit?

Hehe nevermind you just posted that.

Dan, I've been primary using a pin under ring Blue Vibe, but two other good games came with a Cherry Vibe. It really came from setup on the approach and tons more practice over the last two weeks. The key points are keeping my left shoulder back, moving up on the approach 1 foot and not hitting the ball up with finger, just good hand.

The "slumps" never last forever to one who keeps working at his game. Glad to see you had some success after the drought.

Practice today was really good, if not great by this year's standards. I shot a 723 (too bad it doesn't count for anything) and it was my first one this year. 214-268-241 with only two opens (one split and one 2-4-7 that I brainfarted on).

Now if I can just translate that to league...
